Treatment with Betadine is very effective
Betadine is an antiseptic and antimicrobial agent, the main active substances are iodine with polyvinylpyrrolidone.Treatment with Betadine has a pronounced bactericidal effect, and also has antiviral, antifungal, antiprotozoal effects.The action of the drug continues until the complete disappearance of the colored trace, which leaves iodine.The drug rarely causes local irritation.
Betadine is available in three forms in the form of a 10% solution, as an ointment and as a suppository, and depending on the purpose of treatment, one or another form of the drug is prescribed.
Treatment with Betadine in the form of a suppository is recommended:

With vaginitis, which is triggered by a nonspecific or mixed infection;

With candidiasis, of different genesis, and in particular caused by the use of antibiotics or steroid drugs;

With trichomoniasis as an adjuvant.
The preparation Betadin in the form of a 10% solution is applied:

For prevention of wound surfaces from infection;

For the prevention of superinfections;

For processing body parts before and after operations;
-
For the treatment of mucous membranes and skin before medical interventions( eg: before injection, biopsy, etc.);

For the treatment of any wounds and wound infections, skin infections;
-
For treatment of burns, ulcers, pyoderma and pressure ulcers.

For disinfection of areas around probes, catheters and drains;
-
For the disinfection of the genitals before delivery.
As an ointment, Betadine is used:

For the healing of minor abrasions, wounds, bruises, burns, etc.;
-
For the treatment of skin prone to fungal or bacterial infection, pressure sores and trophic ulcers.
Usually, Betadine is tolerated well, but there were very few cases of occurrence:

redness;
-
itching;
-
of iodinated acne;
-
contact dermatitis.
Also with too long application of the drug may appear:

hyperthyroidism caused by iodine;
-
anaphylactic reactions;
-
malfunctions in the circulatory system( neutropenia, hypernatremia and others);
-
disorders in the functioning of the kidney;
-
metabolic acidosis.
The drug should not be used if any of the listed reactions of the body are manifested.Betadine can be used only after the doctor's recommendation, and in some cases, Betadine is contraindicated:

pregnancy;
-
hyperthyroidism;
-
individual sensitivity to iodine;
-
thyroid adenoma;
-
renal, cardiac, and hepatic insufficiency;
-
lactation period;
-
therapy with radioactive iodine;
-
age to the year.
