Arbidol: instructions for use, efficiency, analogues

Arbidol is a domestic antiviral drug with immunomodulating effect.It is prescribed for various diseases of viral etiology, including - for influenza.The medicine was developed in the Soviet Union in the mid-1970s.
Note: has an opinion, and WHO adheres to it, that the effectiveness of Arbidol can not be considered unambiguously proven. Active ingredient and dosage form
The drug is formulated as capsules coated with gelatinous coating.Inside them there is a powder and small granules, the shade of which varies from cream to yellowish.The preparation is packed into blisters( 10 pcs.) Or plastic containers( 40 pcs.).
The active substance of Arbidol is umifenovir hydrochloride.One capsule contains 50 or 100 mg of this substance.
Powder is also produced for the preparation of a suspension( for children).
Note: in 2011, WHO has introduced the drug into the international registry as a direct antiviral agent under the INN "Umifenovir".
Arbidol is recommended by specialists for the treatment and prevention of viral infections.
Pathologies in which this medication is indicated:
- influenza( A and B);
- other SARS;
- SARS( severe acute respiratory syndrome, complicated by inflammation of the bronchopulmonary system);
- secondary immunodeficiencies.
Arbidol is prescribed for complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system, rotavirus infections and recurrent herpes.It is also used to improve immunity in the postoperative period.

Unlike the vast majority of drugs, Arbidol has virtually no contraindications to use.Patients can tolerate treatment well if there is no individual hypersensitivity to umifenovir or accessory capsule components.

Capsules are taken before meals without chewing, and with a sufficient amount of liquid( boiled water).
Single dose by age:
- 3 to 6 years - 50 mg;
- 6-12 - 100 mg;
- from 12 to 200 mg.
For uncomplicated acute respiratory viral infections( including influenza) Arbidol is drunk 4 times a day, maintaining a 6-hour time interval.Duration of the course is 5 days.
In the presence of complications( from the respiratory system), the first 5 days multiplicity 4 times a day, and then during the month shows a weekly intake( 1 dose).
If a rotavirus intestinal infection is diagnosed, Arbidol is drunk 4 times a day for 5 days.
Treatment of SARS requires the use of capsules twice a day for 8-10 days.
Complex treatment of bronchitis and recurrent herpes involves a daily 4-fold intake of Arbidol throughout the first 5-7 days.Then it should be drunk twice a week for up to 1 month.
Multiplicity of reception for the prevention of viral infections - 1 time per day.
If there was close contact with patients with influenza and other ARVI, it is recommended to use the course application for a period of 1.5 to 2 weeks to prevent the development of infection.
To prevent exacerbations in diagnosed bronchitis or recurrent herpes, and also during the seasonal epidemics of ARVI, the age-appropriate dose should be taken twice a week for a month.
To prevent SARS after contact with a sick capsule Arbidol should be drunk daily from 12 days to 2 weeks.
To maintain normal immunity, the drug is prescribed 2 days before surgery, and after the operation, take 1 dose for 2 and 5 days.
Umifenovir hydrochloride is able to selectively inhibit influenza viruses( A and B) and coronavirus, which causes the development of SARS.The substance does not allow the cell membrane of the non-cellular infectious agent to merge with the membranes of the target cells.
According to the manufacturer, Arbidol is characterized by interferon-inducing action.It stimulates the various links of immunity. The active component increases the activity of macrophage cells.Against the background of taking the drug, the body's resistance to infectious diseases of viral origin increases, and the incidence of complications and exacerbations decreases.Clinical manifestations( including signs of intoxication) become less pronounced, and the overall duration of the disease is markedly reduced.
Important: German, French and Italian researchers have studied the effect of umifenovir in vitro and on pre-infected experimental animals.The inhibitory effect of the substance on the viruses of herpes simplex type I, poliomyelitis, hepatitis( B and C) and even Ebola has been documented.
After taking per os, ufifenovir is absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract quickly and practically in its entirety.The maximum serum concentration is fixed after 80 minutes.At a dosage of 50 mg and after 90 minutes.At a dose of 100 mg.Biotransformatsiya material occurs in the liver.The average half-life varies from 17 to 21 hours.Unchanged compound and metabolites are excreted through the intestine.
Side effects of

Interaction of Arbidol with other drugs
