Abscess of gum tooth

Gum abscess, or in another way the periodontal abscess, is an inflammatory process, an abscess of gingiva is acute-purulent. Externally, the tooth gum abscess looks like a cavity that is filled with pus. It is located in the tissues of periodontal and resembles a small formation on the surface of the gum. When you touch, education is quite painful.

Causes of gum abscess

The cause of the abscess can be a transmitted infection that affects the gum tissue and the gap between the gum and the root of the tooth, the so-called periodontal pocket. This disease can be accompanied by others - parodontosis, gingivitis, periodontitis and others. In addition, an abscess can occur after numerous gum injuries, thermal or chemical burns, mechanical injuries or after chronic diseases of the oral cavity.

The cause of the abscess is improper prosthetics or tooth filling, in which caries are present, when a part of the gum is injured by a filling or dental crown. At an early stage, the infection develops in the periodontal pocket because of the vital activity of the bacteria. After that, the infection spreads to periodontal patches that are nearby and the body begins to fight with pathogens. In the inflammation zone, the remains of dead tissue accumulate together with leukocytes and blood serum, all of this has the appearance of a purulent substance. Thus, the abscess of the tooth is formed.

Symptoms

At the first stage of the disease, the abscess is a small formation on the gum, which causes pain when palpated. Painful sensations increase with eating, and this can lead to later loosening and falling out next to standing teeth. The tumor can grow in size quite strongly, which leads to swelling and swelling of the cheek in the area of the inflamed gingiva. If some amount of pus is released from the gum on the affected area, this is a symptom of the abscess that has arisen. Like any other inflammation, this disease can cause moderate or severe intoxication.

Diagnosis and treatment of

Diagnosis of gum abscess is necessary in the dental office. The doctor can quickly determine the presence of the disease when examining the oral cavity.

It happens that the abscess of the gum resolves itself, however such an independent opening does not eliminate the cause of such a disease, even if the patient visibly feels better. If there is no timely medical assistance and treatment, the abscess can become chronic. A chronic abscess sometimes leads to the development of phlegmon of the mouth or osteomyelitis of the jaw. This is due to intoxication of the human body.

The essence of abscess treatment is a surgical opening, and then the subsequent drainage, that is, the removal of purulent contents from the cavity with a focus of inflammatory education.

At the dissection, the surgeon cuts the gum over the tear and removes dead pus and tissue fragments from the cavity. This is done under local anesthesia. At the end, the wound should be treated with antiseptic drugs.

If the abscess is large, drainage should be installed. For drainage in the oral cavity it is necessary to leave a part of the gauze that was moistened in a hypertonic solution. The other part of the gauze is taken out to provide an outflow of pus.

No stitches are applied to the wound - a bandage is applied over the drainage.

After the opening of inflammatory education, the patient is prescribed immunostimulants and antibacterial therapy.

Possible complications that may occur after surgery are bleeding and relapse of the abscess. The risk of complications increases in those who smoke and excessively consume alcohol, in drug addicts, people suffering from obesity and chronic diseases of organs, for example, kidneys, liver, heart, vessels or lungs. Perhaps the emergence of complications and after a long intake of laxatives and hypnotics, cortisone, beta-blockers, tranquilizers or insulin.
