Syndrome of panic attacks
Closed circle
Panic attacks also form a vicious circle at the biochemical level. Fear is accompanied by the release of adrenaline into the blood, it generates such a reflex as "run or attack".The rhythm of breathing is accelerating - in order to cope with the threat, the body must have a certain amount of oxygen. The heart also increases the rhythm of contractions, the frequent rhythm is perceived by the victim as fear.
Mental disorders in which panic attacks are noted:
Panic disorder
Panic disorder is a repetition of psychological attacks. That is, an unpleasant situation occurs with a person( death, car crash, etc.), and he is constantly afraid of repeating it. Panic fear can arise both in repetition of unpleasant situations, and simply in a state of emotional stress: car plugs, the experience of a loved one, being in a long queue. People who are prone to panic disorders try to avoid situations that contribute to provoking a panic attack syndrome.
Treatment of panic attacks
The best result in the treatment of panic disorder is achieved with complex treatment: medications and psychotherapy. Since it is established that when the medication is stopped, the symptoms of a panic disorder are resumed.
Drugs:
- Benzodiazepines( alprazolam) - have a very fast effect, effectively reduce the attack syndrome;
- Clonazepam is a drug with a slower onset of action, but also more prolonged. This drug is recommended to use the course.
- Antidepressants( sertraline, fluoxetine, paroxetine) are also very effective, not addictive.
Psychotherapy or CBT - cognitive-behavioral therapy. This short-term therapy includes relaxation exercises and the study of thought processes. Patients are offered a set of exercises that can remove anxiety, after which they are exposed to unpleasant situations.
Also KBT - helps to reduce the dose when taking drugs, without manifestations of relapses.
The panic disorder syndrome is treated quite a long time and requires an individual approach to each patient.
