Psychopathic disorder is a medical or social category

People with a psychopathic or antisocial disorder ignore the fact that other people's rights exist, often they show criminal behavior. The main motive of their behavior is a combination of aggression and irresponsibility. Usually, the appearance of such personality disorders is associated with prolonged use of narcotic substances.

The term has a long synonymous series: manie sans délire, moral imbecility, degenerative constitution, constitutional inferiority, psychopathy, moral insufficiency, sociopathy and many others. As is clear from the above series of terms, society refers to persons with a sociopathic disorder as enemies of the established order and civil peace, and only then as to people with mental illnesses. Also, this usage gives an idea that society considers this type of disorder to be hereditary.

The term "sociopathy" was put into circulation in Germany, at the end of the 19th century and is still applied in many countries of Europe to all persons with mental illnesses. Only in the 20th century in America, the use of the term was reduced to antisocial behavior. In this form, this term was also implied in English legislation and speech.

He replaced the previously used "moral madness" and "moral defect".Now antisocial personality disorder - is a behavior that is based on the constant disregard and violation of the rights of other members of society.

A separate diagnostic unit for this behavior is not considered by modern psychiatry. This is not a clinical condition, but a legal concept. Doctors do not yet write a psychopathic disorder in the patient's medical record and the science has not yet developed a single method of treatment.

Symptoms of

Psychopathic personality disorder manifests itself early enough. Already in 14-15 years, in our time of accelerated acceleration and at 11-12 teenagers with such a disorder systematically run away from home, beat windows in other people's houses, set fire to schools, torture cats.

In adulthood, there are additional, not yet criminal symptoms. People with psychopathic personality disorder are constantly lying, do not know how to work long hours in one workplace, often miss work. They rarely think about their personal safety or their health, close people. The suffering that they cause their behavior around them does not have moral pressure on them. They say that such people do not have conscience. To their victims they are neglected and consider them created to be deceived or robbed.

In the category of persons with psychopathic disorders, American law includes almost all adults with persistent criminal behavior( in accordance with the Law on Mental Health, psychopathic disorder is a "pronounced irresponsible and anomalously aggressive behavior", as well as persons with sexual deviations( sexual sadism /Sadomasochism, pedophilia and exhibitionism.) In this case, the disorder will be diagnosed both as a psychopathic disorder and as a sexual deviation. D For all types of psychopathy, instability and imbalance of mental processes, constant change of moods are characteristic

In the USA, according to statistics, up to 3.5% of the adult population suffers from this type of disorder, men are three times more likely to suffer from this disorder than women. The following types of mental disorder that can become a basis for the development of a psychopathic disorder:

  • Dependent personality disorder;
  • Dissocial personality disorder.

Obviously, all listed types of mental disorders refer to the understanding of psychopathy in the European school of psychiatry, which considers any psychic deviation as a psychopathic deviation. The actual psychopathic disorder develops on the basis of each of the listed deviations and is necessarily criminal or aggressive.

It is difficult to diagnose the ineffective forms of such disorders and the doctor usually needs the help of family members of the patient.

Treatment of

In the United States of America, persons with psychopathic disorder can be sent for compulsory treatment. And if according to the laws of the 1950s only persons under the age of 21 could be sent for treatment, the latest norms of legislation grant this right to the state bodies in relation to all age categories.

However, one must distinguish between real disorders and character accentuations, when symptoms of the disorder appear only on the upper emotional point of the character manifestations. But also psychopathic manifestations most often break out at the pressure of rules and norms of society on the suffering disorder.

Several theories are involved in the disorder: psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive and biological theories. Obviously, knowing the reason, you can and correct the consequences. The most popular is psychodynamic theory, which finds the basis of psychopathy in the absence of parental love in childhood. Also on the development of the disorder affect children's stress, poverty, criminal environment. Behaviorists look for the reasons for this behavior in a person's ability to imitate the behavior of others. In this case, the disorder is recognized as being formed by the environment.

Theorists of the cognitive school proceed from philosophical categories and find that in the value scale of people with psychopathic disorder, the values of other people are not taken into account.

Biological theory finds the genetic reasons for the lack of people with this disorder the skill of self-learning on their own mistakes.

In any case, the causes of such disorders are social factors and the treatment of the disorder should, above all, include changes in social factors surrounding the person.

Treatment of asocial disorders is a complex process in which station and medication sometimes only exacerbate the disease. Long-term psychotherapy is needed, which forms the patient's attitudes and behavioral skills. Of course, the success of such therapy is impossible without the expressed desire of the patient to return to society. But, as practice shows, as a rule, people with psychopathic disorder are smart enough to feign motivation for recovery and self-recovery and soon after the course of therapy return to previous behavioral cliches.
