Mental personality disorders

Individual character traits.

Usually inherent in a person's individual character traits do not prevent him from existing in society, follow the rules and laws. But sometimes pronounced and persistent changes in character are an obstacle to successful adaptation in the society, and the person himself considers his behavior to be absolutely correct. Changes in such a plan in the domestic psychiatry used to be called psychopathies, and now, according to the international classification of diseases, they are called personality disorders.

Character accentuation.

There are some boundary conditions between pathological changes in character and the norm. They are called "character accentuations".They are characteristic, especially for adolescence and usually disappear over time. Character accentuations rarely lead to severe behavioral disorders, in contrast to personality disorders, which, without passing through the years, are sure to worsen the quality of life.

Mental personality disorders are quite common, they are observed in about five percent of the population and affect mainly the male part of it.
Mental disorders are hereditary in nature, but also features of upbringing and various brain traumas and diseases play a role.
To date, there is a classification of personality disorders, but most often there are personality disorders of a mixed nature, in which certain features prevail.

Classification of personality disorders.

People with schizoid personality disorder are characterized by a total lack of vivid emotions. They do not seek tenderness and love, they do not experience strong anger, overwhelming joy. The almost complete inability to experience any feelings prevents such people from having close friends. They are not interested in work, they do not want to learn something new, do not want to do anything at all.
A person suffering from a paranoid personality disorder is extremely suspicious and pathologically distrustful. He does not leave the feeling that everyone around him is trying to deceive him, to organize a conspiracy behind his back, etc. In such a word, in every action of others, such a person tries to discover a hidden meaning. He does not forget grievances and always strives for revenge, he is very aggressive and spiteful, he is chronically dissatisfied with everything that surrounds him, but can, until a certain moment, successfully hide his true feelings.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder makes a person too cautious and doubting everything. Such a person always follows the established rules once. He strives to achieve perfection in any matter, therefore he delves into small things infinitely and can not finish the conceived. The person suffering from this type of personality disorder usually has no personal life - there is simply no time left for it, and a rare person can meet such high standards.
- People with an anxious( avoiding, evading) disorder are absolutely sure of their unattractiveness and inability to do anything. They organically do not tolerate criticism and ridicule. All this makes a normal life in society impossible, they exist in a social vacuum.
- The patient with a hysterical personality disorder is always extremely emotional, very clearly shows his feelings. His behavior is deliberately demonstrative. Such a person wants to be the best in everything, craves increased interest in himself, but all his ideas, thoughts, speeches are ridiculous and superficial, so they can not attract attention to him for a long time. Symptoms of hysterical personality disorder - theatricality of poses and gestures, increased suggestibility and susceptibility to the influence of others, the desire to do everything "to the public."
Antisocial personality disorder makes a person conflict, irritable, rude. Such a patient does not recognize the norms of public order, he is inclined to blame others for each failure and justify himself, he is distinguished by his aggressiveness and falsehood, he is not able to draw conclusions from his antisocial behavior.
- People with a passive-aggressive personality disorder - are envious people, angry and sullen. They always exaggerate their misfortunes and can not do any work, as they always conflict, resent and secretly resist any activity.

Correction of patient behavior.

Patients suffering from any personality disorder do not recognize that their behavior is not normal and they need treatment. At the same time, without the intervention of a psychiatrist, such people can completely fall out of the life of society. That is why participation in the process of treatment of relatives and close people is of such great importance here.
Correction of the behavior of these patients is carried out using a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques. Medications are used only to stop attacks of intense excitement, depression, anxiety.
It is important to start receiving full-value psychotherapeutic care at the earliest possible age - then the chances of a successful cure increase significantly.
