Fetal hazard

The manifestation of pancreatitis during pregnancy is considered quite dangerous. As the accumulated experience and conducted studies show, the acute course of the disease increases the risk of adverse course and pregnancy outcome, however, do not adversely affect the fetus itself.

In the first trimester, miscarriage and premature birth may occur in women suffering from pancreatitis, the latter may experience prolonged symptoms of severe toxicosis and various complications that are dangerous, both for the woman and her child. In case of especially severe course of the disease, the question of termination of pregnancy may be raised, which can lead to worsening of the patient's condition. This decision is made individually in each case by specialists such as a gynecologist, surgeon and therapist.

Modern medicine believes that chronic pancreatitis is not considered a contraindication for conception and bearing of the fetus, since the ailment has no effect on the fetoplacental blood flow. An important factor in this case is compulsory dispensary observation of the woman from the very first days of pregnancy, which, in case of possible exacerbations and complications, will lead to timely and prompt treatment aimed at their prevention.

In acute pancreatitis during pregnancy is important to understand that all measures for the diagnosis of the disease and its treatment have to be taken urgently, because the sooner treatment is started the damaged organ, the greater will be the likelihood of a quick and successful recovery and all-if complicationsThey will be minimal, and they will not be able to threaten neither the breakdown of pregnancy, nor the health of future mothers and children.
