Probiotics or prebiotics?

Probiotics and prebiotics are different concepts, despite the similar names. The first are beneficial bacteria contained in some foods, and the second are indigestible food residues that have a restorative effect on the state of the intestinal microflora. A probiotic is a microorganism that keeps the intestinal microflora alive. They settle bacteria in the intestines, displacing the "bad" microorganisms. Probiotics for constipation are prescribed to speed up the process of activation or development of bacteria that inhabit the large intestine, having a beneficial effect on the state of the body.

Classification of drugs

Modern probiotics are products that meet certain requirements:

  • Non-toxic and non-pathogenic bacteria.
  • A sufficient amount in the drug to have a positive effect.
  • Resistance to acidic stomach environment.
  • Preservation of viability for a long (up to several years) period of time.

There is a wide range of products on the pharmacological market. The funds are not subject to a specific classification, however, they are conditionally divided into two groups - monocomponent and combined.

Monocomponent Probiotics

They are characterized by the presence of one type of bacteria beneficial to the intestines. Depending on the active substance, they are divided into three groups: bifidum-containing, lactose-containing and other drugs.

Multicomponent Probiotics

In addition to monocomponent preparations, multicomponent (combined) probiotics have been developed, the composition of which contains additional components, for example, mushrooms. It is a mistake to say that combination drugs are more effective. The effectiveness is checked exclusively by personal example, since clinical studies were carried out only with respect to selected drugs.

Indications for use

Faced with difficulties in defecation, people do not consider it necessary to seek medical help and begin to take laxatives uncontrollably, remember folk recipes, or even do an enema. For constipation, medicine recommends that adults and children take probiotics containing live bacteria that normalize the state of the intestinal microflora. With signs of inflammatory bowel disease such as colic, decreased appetite, loss body weight, the appearance of blood in the feces - taking probiotics will help relieve inflammation and avoid the development diseases.

With constipation and rare hard stools, it is better to drink products containing a strain of lactobacillus - after taking the drugs, there is an improvement in stool frequency, softening of feces. If the patient has difficulty with the frequency of stool discharge, the strain of bifidobacteria, lactobacillus B. Bifidobacteria help get rid of dyspepsia, belching, gas. In colitis, probiotics are used to normalize the bacterial composition.

Application

The main purpose of drugs that contain "live" bacteria is to restore the correct balance of intestinal microflora. Probiotics treat constipation by relieving the symptoms of the unpleasant condition by affecting its cause. After examining the patient and receiving tests, the gastroenterologist prescribes treatment suitable for any category of patients.

Probiotics for adults

List of modern medicines designed to help against constipation in adultsis extensive. If a specific drug does not work, the doctor will select analogues. In pharmacies, the following names are more common:

  • Linex helps to normalize stool due to the content of three beneficial microorganisms. It is prescribed for constipation, effectively eliminates dysbiosis. A contraindication to the use of this drug is hypersensitivity to dairy products.
  • Bifidumbacterin Forte colonizes the intestines with beneficial microorganisms, helps get regular bowel movements.
  • Bifiform helps to normalize the intestinal microflora.
Bifiform restores microflora
  • Florin forte is effective in chronic flatulence.

A separate category is Bioflor - eubiotic, a new generation drug, which includes beneficial "live" bacteria at the same time as the nutrient medium.

The drug stabilizes the intestinal microflora, has antidiarrheal and antimicrobial effects. Recommended for use after receiving radiation or chemotherapy, prolonged use of antibiotics or hormonal drugs.

Probiotics for children

In children, intestinal disorders are no less common. For children of any age, medications are prescribed to strengthen immunity, correct microflora, eliminate dysbiosis, and with constipation caused by the introduction of complementary foods. Probiotics are prescribed for manifestations of diathesis and dermatitis. A newborn child is faced with colic, older children are prone to dysbiosis, accompanied by constipation. The following drugs are recommended for children:

  • Bifidumbacterin Forte, Acipol, Probifor are prescribed for infants, the course of administration is 7-10 days.
  • Bifilis is a probiotic for children 7-14 years old.
Bifilis acts as a probiotic

For preventive purposes, take within two weeks, to eliminate dysbiosis, the course will be up to 30 days. It is recommended for babies to dilute the powder with breast milk or a mixture. For adults, the drug is quite effective.

Probiotics from food

In addition to medications, probiotics are found in foods. The most famous is kefir. Cheese, cottage cheese, yoghurts with the prefix "bio" are considered proven suppliers of beneficial microorganisms.

Sauerkraut contains more probiotics than kefir. Natural analogues, as opposed to artificially synthesized ones, easily pass into the intestines, helping to activate the digestive process and strengthening the immune system. Homemade pickles - tomatoes, cucumbers in an acetic-free brine, pickled apples - contain probiotics.

Homemade pickles

With the popularization of Japanese dishes, an additional source became known - miso. French dishes also contain probiotic-fortified foods. To normalize the digestive system, it is useful to eat bananas, it is important to choose extremely ripe fruits.

When probiotics won't work

Despite the usefulness of products and preparations with live microorganisms, they do not always lead to the desired result. Reception is useless in the following situations:

  1. An attempt to get rid of constipation as a disease, not a symptom.
  2. Endocrine Disorders.
  3. Lack of healthy food, diet, overeating.
  4. Chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and concomitant infections.
  5. Weak immunity.
  6. Lack of fiber in the diet.
  7. Lack of fermented milk products.
  8. Long-term use of contraceptive pills, laxatives, antibiotics.

In the presence of the aforementioned conditions, the conditions in the intestine that are unsuitable for the existence of the "right" microorganisms are created, which will lead only to a temporary improvement in the condition. It is recommended to start taking probiotics only after relieving the exacerbation of chronic diseases, eliminating foci of infection, adjusting nutrition, stabilizing hormonal levels.

Normal digestion is one of the main factors in maintaining health and longevity, the fight against constipation and stabilization of the intestines require an integrated approach to treatment. It is impossible to unequivocally answer the question of which of the probiotics will certainly relieve digestion difficulties. Their use to combat constipation shows good results. If the doctor additionally prescribed other medications, it is worth listening to the recommendations. Important requirements are to observe the drinking regime, monitor the correct nutrition and play sports to the best of your physical ability. Probiotics, like other medicines, should only be used on the advice of a physician. Self-medication and uncontrolled intake negatively affect the state of the intestinal microflora (for example, treating constipation will lead to diarrhea), which will negatively affect the general condition of the body person.
