Duspatalin for pancreatitis: how to take, composition, form of release, indications, contraindications, overdose, analogues
Abdominal pain is one of the symptoms of dysfunction of the pancreato-biliary system. The most common cause of discomfort in such conditions is hypermotor activity, which leads to the development of spasm. Violation of the outflow of pancreatic juice and bile may be accompanied by attacks of acute pancreatitis. Duspatalin for pancreatitis is the most effective antispastic agent, which is prescribed for both acute and prolonged inflammation of the pancreas.

Composition of the medicine
Duspatalin (Mebeverin) is a myotropic antispasmodic drug with the ability to reduce tone, relax smooth muscles. The activity of the drug is provided by the main active ingredient - mebeverin hydrochloride (200 mg / 1 capsule). Additional components are listed in the table.

Release form
Medicinal product Duspatalin produced in two forms - encapsulated and tableted.
White tablets, enclosed in a shell, have a rounded shape, contain an active substance (mebeverine hydrochloridum) in an amount of 135 g. One pharmacy pack contains from 1 to 6 blisters with a different number of tablets (from 10 to 120 pcs.).
Capsulated forms of Duspatalin have a prolonged action, contain more active ingredient than tablets. Oblong opaque capsules are white. The hard shell is made of gelatin with food additives. Cardboard packs with blisters, which contain from 10 to 90 capsules, come into sale.
How does it work
Duspatalin has found application in pancreatitis, since it has specific pharmacodynamics.
The smooth muscle of the digestive tract is contracted with the help of muscarinic cholinergic receptors activated by acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter that carries out neuromuscular transmission pulses). This leads to the opening of the ionic sodium tubules, through which Na is transported into the cells, which causes spasm.

To prevent muscle spasm in pancreatitis, Duspatalin is prescribed. Mebeverine hydrochloride reduces the permeability of smooth muscle cell membranes for sodium ions, restricts the release of potassium.
In addition, it inhibits the activity of norepinephrine transporters and has a local anesthetic effect. Due to the complex mechanism of influence, the drug relieves spasm, but does not cause hypotension of the gastrointestinal tract tissues.
The drug does not accumulate in the body, is absorbed up to 97%, is actively metabolized, excreted in the form of metabolites with urine within 24 hours after taking a single oral dose.

Indications and contraindications for the use of Duspatalin in pancreatitis
Drugs with an antispasmodic effect are widely used in acute and prolonged inflammation of the pancreas to relieve pain and spasms of smooth muscle muscles.
In addition, they eliminate biliary dyskinesia and normalize the sphincter of Oddi (the muscular valve of the duodenum, through which bile and pancreatic secretion enter the gastrointestinal tract).
In addition to eliminating spasm, Duspatalin improves microcirculation of the organ in case of pathologies of the pancreas, which contributes to the normalization of trophic processes. This inhibits cell death in the affected tissues.
With pancreatitis, of all antispasmodics, Duspatalin is preferable, since it is selective suppresses pathological motor skills and does not affect normal peristalsis, thereby does not cause side effects effects.
Indications for taking Mebeverin
The medicine is used to treat spasms, pain syndrome, organ dysfunction in diseases:
- spasms in the abdominal cavity of unknown etiology;

Overdose
To date, not a single such case has been recorded. With a potential overdose of the drug in pancreatitis, neurological and cardiovascular symptoms may appear.
All clinical manifestations of Mebeverine intoxication are reversible. There is no specific antidote. Treatment of the condition is symptomatic (drinking plenty of fluids, flushing the gastrointestinal tract).
Combination with other drugs
Duspatalin, prescribed for pancreatitis, is combined with any drugs used to treat pancreatic pathology. It should not be taken with other antispasmodics.
Official studies on the interaction of mebeverine with ethanol have shown that no negative effect of the latter has been identified. But it should be remembered that alcohol with pancreatitis is strictly prohibited.
Analogs
On the pharmaceutical market there are a number of drugs with a principle of action, like Duspatalin. They are also prescribed for acute and chronic pancreatitis. There are two types of analogs:
- Complete analogs are preparations containing mebeverine hydrochloride (Sparex, Niaspam, Mebeverine, Talinda® retard, others).
- Group analogues - containing active ingredients with similar pharmacodynamics (No-Spa, Papaverine, Drotaverine, Buscopan®, Dicetel®, etc.)
Duspatalin is an effective remedy for the symptomatic treatment of pancreatic diseases. It is safe, without the risk of complications, it can be used for a long time. But only a doctor can prescribe or replace Duspatalin with one of the similar drugs for pancreatitis. You cannot do this on your own.
