Symptom etiology

Poisons and microbes entering the body contribute to the development of poisoning, which provokes inflammation. Against the background of the multiplication and death of microbes, toxins are released that irritate the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract.

Against the background of such a process, she swells. Mucus is synthesized, so the membrane does not function well. In addition, in case of poisoning, the process of absorption of salts and water is disrupted.

Against the background of excess fluid accumulated in the intestinal lumen, diarrhea occurs in case of poisoning.

Before treating a patient for food poisoning, it is recommended to find out what types of diarrhea accompany the process in question.

Poisoning is characterized by diarrhea:

  • secretory - develops when there is a violation of the transfer of certain trace elements through the epithelium of the small intestine. In this case, toxins accumulate in the lumen where the liquid enters. The feces are copious. Diarrhea is accompanied by mucus and blood;
  • invasive - such a clinic is typical for food poisoning, in which the absorption of fluid is impaired, since the mucous membrane of the large intestine is inflamed. With diarrhea, there is a stool with mucus, sometimes even with blood;
  • osmotic - absorption is impaired in each part of the intestine. All liquid you drink is excreted from the body. Diarrhea occurs after taking a pill for worms and a laxative saline.

Clinical picture

Diarrhea usually appears 2 hours after food poisoning. In addition, vomiting develops. Less often, such a clinic is observed 5 days after poisoning.

The following factors affect the duration of diarrhea:

  • the amount of toxins that are in the patient's body;
  • general well-being of the patient;
  • timely treatment.

Regardless of the type of diarrhea in case of poisoning, if this symptom does not disappear, the body becomes dehydrated, and electrolytes are lost.

Such a clinic provokes the following conditions:

  • disorder of the central nervous system;
  • impaired blood supply to internal organs against the background of blood thickening;
  • arrhythmia;
  • failures in the transmission of impulses;
  • acute renal failure.

Dehydration, characteristic of poisoning and diarrhea, provokes loss of consciousness, hypotension, anuria, muscle spasms.

The symptoms under consideration after poisoning are dangerous for children, patients with low immunity, and elderly patients.

Diagnostics

To decide which diarrhea medications to take, the patient is prescribed a comprehensive examination.

If the poisoning is accompanied by diarrhea, vomiting, fever and other symptoms of intoxication, differential diagnosis of intestinal diseases is carried out.

Examining the color of the stool, studying the composition of the stool, the doctor determines the area of intestinal inflammation:

  • small intestine - after poisoning, severe diarrhea appears. Feces have a yellow or green tint. There is no blood;
  • colon - after poisoning, frequent diarrhea occurs. The stool is not profuse, but there is mucus in the stool.

Before deciding what to do in case of poisoning, the doctor examines the history of the whole family, we consider the clinic.

Emergency help

If the first symptoms of poisoning appear, the patient needs urgent help. Parents should know what to do in such a situation. This requires the advice of an experienced pediatrician.

If poisoning is detected in a child or in an adult patient, while vomiting occurs, diarrhea appears, and the body temperature rises, the following recommendations must be adhered to:

  • removal of toxins and toxins that have not penetrated into the blood - the patient must drink clean boiled water. If there is no vomiting during poisoning, you need to provoke it. This must be done until the vomit is clear;
  • in case of poisoning and diarrhea, you need to drink tablets from the pharmacological group of sorbents. This treatment will stop the absorption of toxins into the bloodstream. The most common drug in this group is Activated Carbon. It should be drunk with diarrhea after poisoning at the rate of 1 tablet per 10 kg of weight;
  • treatment includes drinking plenty of fluids. If the clinic in question does not go away during the day, it is recommended to drink chamomile broth.

If the poisoning is accompanied by a fever, an ambulance must be called. The risk group includes newborn babies.

Therapeutic techniques

What to do in case of poisoning depends on the clinic shown. The standard treatment for diarrhea, fever, spasms is to carry out the following manipulations:

  • bowel cleansing with an enema;
  • diet therapy;
  • the medication is prescribed taking into account the identified pathogen;
  • to normalize the intestinal microflora, take appropriate medications with lactobacilli.

What to do to quickly remove toxins from the body? For this, the stomach is washed. The patient is given an adsorbent drug.

Effective tablets of this group:

  1. White coal.
  2. Enterosgel.
  3. Polysorb.

In the absence of temperature, an enema is done. If the patient has a fever, an antipyretic agent is drunk:

  • Ibuprofen;
  • Nurofen.

What to do to prevent dehydration caused by diarrhea after poisoning? The patient is prescribed oral rehydration medications:

  • Hydrovit;
  • Alvogen.

When vomiting occurs, treatment is aimed at restoring salt and water balance by injecting saline with a dropper. In addition to taking the medicine, the patient is shown diet therapy.

If pathogenic microbes are detected after intoxication, antibiotic therapy is indicated. It is forbidden to take the antimicrobial on your own.

Otherwise, the patient's general well-being will worsen, and the symptoms will not disappear.

After taking an antimicrobial medication, take a probiotic:

  • Bifiform;
  • Enterol;
  • Bactisubtil.

If the stool is disturbed during poisoning, the patient is prohibited from:

  • restrain vomiting, stop diarrhea with a medication such as Imodium. Otherwise, toxins will penetrate the bloodstream, increasing the clinic of intoxication;
  • rinse the body with a solution of potassium permanganate;
  • provoke vomiting in an unconscious patient;
  • take analgesic pills to relieve pain;
  • if the patient's temperature rises above 39 degrees, it is necessary to bring it down with an antipyretic agent. If pain is bothering you, no pain medication is taken separately.

If treatment for poisoning is prescribed in a timely manner, the development of dangerous complications can be prevented.
