Candidal dermatitis is characterized by lesions of the skin and internal organs with the fungus Sandida. The likelihood of infection with candidiasis is quite high, since it can be transmitted even during intrauterine development from the mother to the fetus.

In addition, the fungus can be contracted through basic necessities (dishes, hygiene products, etc.). It is important to consider that sometimes animals can be the source of candidiasis in adults and especially babies.

In a child, dermatitis can occur with diaper overheating, insufficient air exchange and microbial infection. Quite often, physical contact with diapers and diapers is a provocateur of candidiasis. As they grow older, the baby's skin acquires immune properties and by 1 year the disease develops much less often.

The reasons for the development of the disease

The main provoking factor in adults and children is insufficient hygiene. Irrespective of the age category, irritants have a negative effect on the skin of patients.

In addition, candidal dermatitis develops in the following cases:

  • prolonged contact with urine and feces;
  • heat;
  • increased skin moisture;
  • numerous studies have shown that yeast-like fungi, which are the causative agents of candidiasis, however, these two diseases should not be confused, since the fight against them is carried out in different ways ways;
  • candidal dermatitis can trigger antibiotic treatment when taken in place of antifungal therapy. In this case, improper therapy activates the development of a fungal infection, accompanied by a strong inflammatory process;
antibiotic therapy as a cause of dermatitis
  • a huge role in the development of the disease has a hereditary predisposition, including to allergic manifestations. In addition, dermatitis can appear as a result of a lack of riboflavin, biotin and zinc in the body.

It is important to remember that changing the type of diapers and hygiene products can also provoke acute symptoms of the disease.

Symptoms

The disease proceeds with pronounced symptoms in the form of:

  • redness of the skin in the affected area (genitals, gluteal region, skin folds, pictured);
  • sometimes the epidermis is covered with small pimples, wounds are formed (pictured);
  • soreness in places affected by dermatitis;
  • the child is restless, crying, trying to take off the diaper.

It should be noted that almost all the symptoms of dermatitis in a child are manifested in the area of skin contact with diapers and diapers. However, if similar symptoms are noted in atypical places for candidal dermatitis (cheeks, ear region, etc.), this may indicate the development of another pathological process and before starting treatment, a thorough diagnosis should be carried out.

Diagnostics

To diagnose candidal dermatitis in adults and babies, it is necessary to perform a number of laboratory examinations. First of all, a visual examination is carried out, in which an inflamed area of the skin is determined, limited by a border formed from the epidermal macerated layer.

Laboratory examinations consist in conducting direct microscopy of the starting material, which is required to identify cells with elements of pseudomycelium.

In addition, laboratory sowing is performed for the presence of Candida fungi. In the case when the analysis is positive, the growth of fungal colonies progresses within 1 day.

Treatment of candidal dermatitis

Candidal dermatitis is a rather dangerous disease. In children, a pustular infection may develop in the area of physical contact with diapers. The rash can spread to the abdomen, back, limbs and face.

At the initial stage of the development of dermatitis, it is recommended to apply brilliant green to the inflamed area of the body. It is important to take into account that treatment, especially for children, should be started in the first 3 days from the moment of the onset of primary symptoms. Late therapy can lead to infection with Candida albicans bacteria, which complicates the course of the disease.

Treatment of the disease is carried out with antifungal drugs (antibiotics, azoles, allylamines, etc.). In adult patients, the most commonly used antibiotics are Pimafucin and Nystatin. They can also be prescribed to newborn babies, but sometimes they do not give the desired result. Antibiotics in the form of ointments are recommended to be applied in a very thin layer 2-3 times during the day. As a rule, a positive effect occurs after 2 to 5 days, and the complete disappearance of external symptoms is observed after 7-10 days.

Azoles (Travogen, Nizoral, Amiklone, Antifungol, Clotrimoxazole, etc.) have an active effect on yeast-like fungi and gram-positive bacteria (staphylococcus, streptococcus). These drugs neutralize the negative effects. Azoles should be applied externally no more than 2 times a day in a very thin layer. Positive dynamics is noted after 4-5 days, however, it should be borne in mind that when using azoles side effects are possible, so they are used with caution in patients prone to allergic reactions.

Along with external agents, oral medications are prescribed (Ketocanazole, Fluconazole, etc.), but it should be borne in mind that treatment should be carried out only under the supervision of the attending physician.

Preventive actions

To prevent the development of candidal dermatitis, it is necessary to carry out preventive measures, which consist in observing the following rules:

  1. It is important to maintain the baby's hygiene by changing diapers at least 6-8 times during the day.
  2. It is recommended to wash children and take air baths as often as possible.
  3. Diapers and nappies should only be worn on a dry and clean body.
  4. You should not often change the brand of diapers, and if you are hypersensitive to a certain series of care products, replace them with hypoallergenic ones.

In some cases, dermatitis can occur even with careful hygiene measures, which means the presence in feces and urine of a large amount of irritating trace elements that disrupt the balance of acidity and alkalinity. In this case, before prescribing treatment, laboratory diagnostics are carried out to identify violations of the gastrointestinal tract.

With timely initiation of treatment, implementation of preventive measures and supervision of a dermatologist, the prognosis for recovery is favorable.
