Can a child be allergic to Linex? This issue is worried about the parents, whose children are prescribed to take the drug. We will talk about the risk of developing individual intolerance and how to deal with it in our article.

Allergy to linex

The principle of the drug

Linex is a probiotic group drug. It contains live lactic acid bacteria with a wide spectrum of action. There are two products on sale - Linex and Linex Forte, they differ in the composition and concentration of useful microflora.

Linex contains three types of bacteria: lactobacilli, enterococci fetium and bifidobacteria of the Infantis strain. The preparation with the prefix Forte includes bifidobacteria of the Animalis subsp. Lactis and lactobacilli. Normally, this microflora is present in the intestinal tract of children and adults. The tool is practically free of side effects and is approved for use in newborns and expectant mothers.

In fact, there are many reasons provoking an imbalance of the intestinal microflora in the body. And, in addition to the main treatment, for example, aimed at combating infectious and inflammatory factors, it is important to solve the problem comprehensively, including with the help of Linex.

How does the remedy work? The microflora contained in Linex is in a capsule or sachet of the drug in the form of a dry suspension. As soon as it enters the intestines of a child or an adult, it comes out of suspended animation. Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria are activated and create a beneficial environment in the digestive tract. So dysbiosis is defeated.

Indications for use

Linex is recommended for use under the following conditions:

  • dysbiosis;
  • diarrhea;
  • increased gas formation;
  • stomach ache;
  • poor weight gain in infants;
  • food poisoning symptoms;
  • antibiotic treatment;
  • taking hormonal drugs;
  • unbalanced diet;
  • frequent stress, colds, etc.

Allergy Causes

Allergy to Linex in an infant and older children occurs due to individual intolerance to the components of the drug. Consider the main reasons that provoke it:

  • a large number of consumed drugs;
  • low awareness of the population about the risk of uncontrolled therapy;
  • unsatisfactory environmental situation;
  • infectious, viral, fungal and parasitic diseases that create preconditions for the development of allergic reactions;
  • eating meat and milk from animals that have received antibiotics, hormones and other unsafe drugs during the growth process.

The risk group includes the following individuals:

  • patients with a genetic predisposition to allergies;
  • children and adults with pre-existing manifestations of individual hypersensitivity;
  • persons with helminthiasis and other parasitic infections;
  • patients who exceed the dosage of drugs prescribed by a specialist.

In infants, an allergic reaction to Linex may be the result of the mother's non-compliance with the diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or be the result of uncontrolled treatment with various medical drugs.

Symptoms

With the development of an allergic reaction to Linex, the following symptoms may occur:

  • skin rashes;
  • flatulence and abdominal pain;
  • diarrhea or constipation.
Skin rashes, flatulence

A small child with Linex intolerance may additionally experience regurgitation, impaired appetite, and fever. Since such symptoms can be typical for other diseases, you need to show the baby to a specialist.

In persons with impaired absorption of glucose-galactose, lactase deficiency and galactose intolerance, the listed clinical signs will be more pronounced. For them, Linex is contraindicated.

Allergy in adults

Symptoms of individual intolerance to Linex in adults are manifested in the form of disorders of the digestive tract, cramps and pain in the abdomen, rashes on the skin. An allergic reaction can occur suddenly, for example, with prolonged antibiotic use or food hypersensitivity.

In general, the condition is characterized by milder clinical manifestations compared to children. But consultation with a specialist to clarify the situation and treatment in this case are also required.

Allergies in pregnant women

Linex is included in that small list of drugs that are safe to take during pregnancy. In theory, the agent works exclusively in the intestinal tract of a woman and cannot travel through the body and penetrate the placental barrier to the fetus. Therefore, the medication is prescribed at any stage of pregnancy under the supervision of a specialist.

But the safety of Linex cannot be completely ruled out. If a woman has such alarming symptoms as an increase in temperature against the background of loose stools, the appearance mucus and blood in the stool and abdominal pain when taking a probiotic, you should immediately contact to the doctor. The listed clinical manifestations mean that Linex should not be used by a pregnant woman uncontrollably - the drug is taken strictly if there is an indication as prescribed by a specialist.

Treatment

Let's list the tactics of the main actions:

  • Reception of sorbents. Such drugs as activated carbon and Enterosgel help the body to quickly evacuate toxins and harmful elements, significantly reducing the manifestation of hypersensitivity.
  • Use of an antihistamine. Fenistil drops or Suprastin tablets eliminate allergy symptoms in the form of puffiness, itching and skin rashes.
  • Appointment of myotropic antispasmodics. They are used for ongoing intestinal disorders, especially if they are accompanied by pain and colic in the abdomen.

Depending on the severity of the clinical picture, the doctor will select auxiliary medicines according to an individual intake regimen.

Alternative to the drug

With the development of an allergy to Linex, the drug may well be replaced by its analogs - prebiotics. These are Hilak Forte, Acipol and Bifiform. All products are approved for use from birth.

Hilak Forte, Bifiform

But using them on your own, without the advice of a specialist, is undesirable, especially when it comes to children.

Prophylaxis

To prevent an allergic reaction to Linex, experts recommend adhering to the following preventive measures:

  • Avoid uncontrolled and haphazard intake of various medicines.
  • The dosage of the medications used should be appropriate for the age and weight category of the patient, it is also important to take into account the functioning of his kidneys and liver.
  • The method of application of this or that drug must correspond to the annotation to it, that is, Linex is taken only internally. They do not treat the mucous membranes of the nose, do not instill it in the eyes, etc.
  • Organize a healthy diet, consume a sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals.
  • Follow the diet of the expectant and nursing mother.

Allergy to various medicines, including Linex, is most often found among children. For this reason, it is important to approach the treatment of young patients more carefully and in no case to practice self-prescribing drugs.

Can a baby or an older child be allergic to such a harmless drug as Linex? Of course, it can, like any other drug, however, this situation is rare. In this case, doctors give an unambiguous answer - with the development of hypersensitivity to the drug, it is necessary to abandon its further use.
