Treatment of pancreatitis in children
Inflammation of the pancreas( pancreatitis) in children, Unfortunately, the phenomenon is not rare. This disease has two forms of perforation - acute and chronic. And most often small patients suffer from chronic pancreatitis, which must be treated urgently.
An illness can become common in childhood for a child's age, which causes the onset of an illness( since most parents write off symptoms for usual colic or "ate something wrong").And only repeatedly repeated sharp painful sensations of the child in the field of hypochondrium alarm parents and force to go with the kid to the pediatrist. There, an unpleasant diagnosis comes out - pancreatitis.
But do not get scared: careful treatment of pancreatitis in children, with the observance of doctor's orders and strict diet, is quite capable of leading to a long-term remission and even recovery.
The causes of pancreatitis in children most often become:
- Dysfunction in the diet( either multiple and abundant food intake, or food in large volumes, but with large interruptions);
- Too frequent consumption of spicy, fatty, smoked or fried foods( fast food is the main enemy of the child's health in this case);
- Uncontrolled intake of medications and, as a consequence, a side effect of such treatment;
- Various congenital or abnormal changes in the organs of the digestive tract;
- Blunt abdominal trauma in the area of the injured organ;
- Heredity;
- Postponed viral infections( hepatitis, chicken pox, influenza and other diseases), whose treatment was performed without bed rest.
Acute form treatment
Acute form of pancreatic disease( pancreatitis) in children is a rare phenomenon, but sometimes it occurs. In this case, the child must be placed in the hospital without delay.
Treatment of this form of pancreatitis implies absolute starvation for the first three days and complete physical and psychological rest. You can drink only degassed mineral water( Borjomi or Essentuki 4) in a warm form. The intake of fluid should be done in small sips and in small single doses. Such a diet will cope with a sense of hunger and reduce the pain syndrome to naught.
Already from 3-4 days, you can gradually introduce into the diet crushed buckwheat porridge, scrambled steamed and unsweetened warm tea. It is worth remembering that pancreatitis of acute form requires respect for a gentle temperature regime( all food should be slightly warm).
On the 5th-6th day you can give non-acid wiped cottage cheese, milk kissel and dry white bread.
Another day is recommended to expand the menu with vegetable purees and grated vegetarian soups.
A little later you can switch to the use of lean boiled meat, cooked in the form of puree.
Approximately on Day 14 of the diet, it is recommended to try to give baked apples and fruit jelly. Fresh vegetables and fruits can be entered into the menu very carefully, carefully watching the child's condition.
Along with the diet, treatment of acute pancreatitis in children requires taking medications to stop bacterial infection and pain.
In this case, the physician prescribes the following:
- Spasmolytic and analgesic drugs - no-spa, platyphylline, analgin, etc.;
- Disinfectant therapy - intravenous plasma injection, 5-10% glucose solution;
- In case of severe disease, treatment may consist of the administration of corticosteroids.
Acute pancreatitis in children requires a strict individual diet for 10-15 days. After that, you can gradually expand the menu of a small patient.
Treatment of chronic form
Sluggish chronic form of pancreatitis in children requires an integrated approach and includes the following treatment:
- Period of diagnosis and rehabilitation therapy in a hospital;
- Follow-up care at your doctor's office;
- Passage of the course of health-improving therapy in sanatoria of the appropriate profile.
So, the treatment of chronic pancreatitis in children in a hospital occurs according to the following scheme:
- To maintain a calm emotional background, prescribe sedatives( valerian, bromine, etc.);
- In case of painful pain, chronic pancreatitis will be treated with spasmolytic drugs and analgesics;
- However, the main treatment for the chronic form of the disease is to comply with the diet.
So, in the first two days after hospitalization, it is recommended to have a fasting period using only degassed mineral water( Borjomi, Essentuki 4).
On the third day you can enter in the diet of weak unsweetened tea and white crackers, grated cereal mucous soup, broth of wild rose.
In a day you can try to expand the menu with milk, cottage cheese and a small amount of butter.
And already starting from the sixth day, you can give fried vegetables.
Later it is recommended to enter into the menu boiled low-fat meat or fish.
After two weeks of a similar diet, you can try to give fruit and vegetable juices, diluted with a small amount of water.
Introduce in the diet of fresh vegetables and fruits is quite a bit, carefully watching the state of the child.
And always it is worth remembering that chronic pancreatitis in children is subject to almost complete cure.
