Hyperthermic syndrome in children
The increase in body temperature in a child is nothing more than a protective reaction of the body to the introduction of a pathogenic microbe. In the rise of temperature, the struggle for the health of the organism is expressed, which is why it is not advisable to rush to bring down the temperature, if it is not higher than 38.0-38.5 C. These grades are not considered threatening to the baby, and his body is able to fight the infection on his own.
But there is a condition called hyperthermia syndrome, which really poses a threat to the baby. The hypertensive syndrome is manifested by high body temperature( up to 39 C and above) because of the violation of thermoregulatory mechanisms in the child's body. The root cause may be both the infection that has been entered, and non-infectious factors( overwork, allergy, stress, etc.).
There are three stages of hyperthermia syndrome: mild( temperature up to 39,5 C), moderate( up to 40 C, no cramps), severe( 40 C or more, seizures). To eliminate this condition, it is necessary to carry out a number of measures, otherwise a high temperature can lead to a very serious condition of the child.
High temperature increase in children is fraught with metabolic disorders. The body feels the need for more oxygen, which prevents the body from intoxication. In turn, it can lead to brain edema, the appearance of seizures, heavy stress on the heart. Raising the child's body temperature above 40 C is a threat to his life. In such a situation, serious respiratory, cerebral and metabolic disturbances can occur in the body.
Hyperthermal syndrome at an easy stage is accompanied by the following symptoms: temperature from 38 to 39C, weakness, tinnitus, headache, chills, dizziness. There is also a frequent pulse, pale skin, increased sweating, a drop in blood pressure. Without providing appropriate care, a further increase in body temperature will aggravate the situation. At the next stages, hallucinations, convulsions, motor disorders, vomiting, loss of consciousness, further falling of arterial pressure, respiratory disorders can appear. Temperatures from 40 C and above all children suffer extremely hard. The indicator in 38-39C is transferred in different ways, but above 38.5C it is necessary to knock down necessarily.
With hyperthermic syndrome, it is recommended that you seek help immediately from a doctor, especially if the baby's temperature stays at around 39 C for more than two hours. Only a doctor can provide adequate assistance to this situation. The same actions of parents should be in cases when fever is combined with vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, and visual impairment.
With hyperthermic syndrome, it is necessary to create conditions for lowering body temperature. For this, you can use both physical techniques and medications. For example, it is recommended to wipe the child with water at room temperature, provide it with plenty of drinking. It is good to use sudorific drinks: decoctions of lime, chamomile, raspberry. Wipe with alcohol and vinegar solutions with caution. This is due to the fact that at high temperatures, both vinegar and alcohol are easily absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and can lead to poisoning. A common antipyretic drug is paracetamol, and sometimes analgin. The latter, in addition to the antipyretic effect, also has an anesthetic. The drugs are administered intramuscularly or intravenously. In the event that the hyperthermic syndrome is of an infectious nature, the doctor prescribes antibiotics to the child, guided by the peculiarities of the course of the disease. Among other things, in the treatment of hyperthermia syndrome, colloidal solutions, lytic mixtures, are used to improve the circulatory system.
In hyperthermic syndrome, the temperature of the baby should be measured every 0.5-1 hour. This is important, as with its reduction to 37C, all measures aimed at eliminating hyperthermic syndrome should be stopped. Further stabilization of the temperature will occur on its own.
