Therapeutic gymnastics in scoliosis

Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine, formed when the rib humerus. Depending on the location of the curvature, this disease can be lumbar, cervical or thoracic. There are also combined forms of scoliosis. The treatment of scoliosis includes a whole complex of measures, therapeutic gymnastics necessarily enters into it.

What are the principles of therapeutic gymnastics in the case of scoliosis?

Therapeutic physical exercises are designed to correct disorders in the spine. They are made in the convex side of the deformation. For example, the torso of the trunk with right-sided thoracic scoliosis is performed to the right, and with the left-sided scoliosis to the left. Gymnastics in scoliosis has the following principles. On the convex side of the deformation, the muscles of the back are strengthened, and the relaxation on the concave side. Exercises for stretching and stretching in the labile form of scoliosis are categorically prohibited and limited with stable scoliosis. The use of weights is sharply limited or completely excluded. Therapeutic exercises include strengthening the longitudinal muscles of the back, unloading the spine, and exercising in the pool. All exercises should be performed at a slow pace.

The therapeutic effect of curative physical training in scoliosis is achieved when performing exercises that exert a corrective effect on deformation, strengthen muscle groups that support the spine, have a general strengthening effect, train the function of external respiration.

Physiotherapy - the main exercises for scoliosis

The starting position( i.p.) lying on the back, and hands on the back of the head. When you inhale, dilute the elbows, while exhaling, bring them back. Perform the exercise 3-4 times.

Lying on his back. With a sigh, bend your leg to your stomach and straighten it as you exhale. Then do this with the other leg -( 4-5 times).

Lie on your back, bend your knees. Raise the pelvis, simultaneously bending in the thoracic spine, return to the starting position -( 4-5 times).

Lying on his back. When inhaling, pull one hand up, and the other - aside( on the side of curvature), with the out-breath of the hand, lower -( 4-5 times).

Lie on your stomach. When inhaling, lift the trunk, while bending the thoracic spine, when exhaling, lower it -( 3-4 times).

Lie on your stomach, and place your arms along the body, palms down. Raise your legs alternately with inspiration, leaning on your hands while lifting your torso. On exhalation, return to the starting position. Do the exercise 3-4 times.

Lying on his stomach. Take aside the convex side of the curvature of the lumbar spine of the leg, then return to its original position. At the same time, breathing is arbitrary( 3-4 times).

Lie on your side, on a special cushion with the convex side of the curvature of the thoracic spine. When inhaling, throw your hands behind your head, when you exhale, lower them. Exercise slowly( 3-4 times).

Standing on all fours. When inhaling, simultaneously pull the left arm and the right leg, while exhaling - in the starting position. Do this with the other hand and foot. Exercise 4-6 times.

The starting position - lying on the back, and hands along the body. With a deep breath, simultaneously raise your hands up, and with exhalation and lower them. Repeat exercise 4-5 times.

Medical gymnastics should be performed daily in case of scoliosis - this will not take much time.

A physician should prescribe exercise therapy. He also assigns individual exercises, depending on the type of scoliosis. Individual therapeutic gymnastics in this disease is carried out by the instructor himself, and in particularly difficult cases( when an unfavorable course of the disease) is a physician on exercise therapy.

It is necessary to know that starting the exercises on your own, developing a set of exercises for yourself is by no means impossible in scoliosis. In the curvature of the spine, some exercises are contraindicated, for example, lifting of gravity, jumping. With caution, you need to do exercises for stretching the spine. Also, there are contraindications to exercises that increase the flexibility of the spine and lead to overstretch. If you engage in self-medication, then there is a high probability of progression of scoliosis and complications, such as back pain, displacement of internal organs, the appearance of herniated intervertebral discs.
