Hematoma on the head after a stroke Features of the structure of the skull are such that after a severe blow on the head, there is always a hematoma. It can be of varying degrees. Does the accumulation of blood on the head after a stroke some danger to human life?

The skull is a bone structure covered with skin and its appendages. Between the bones of the skull and the skin is the periosteum. Muscles are not present in all parts of the head. The integument of the scalp is very good blood supply - there is a wide network of both venous and arterial vessels.

This is a predisposing factor for the easy formation of a head's hematoma after a bruise. This is facilitated by the close proximity of the skin and bone structures. Since the blood spilled from the damaged vessels, nowhere to go, it accumulates in a limited area in the form of a hematoma.

Causes of hematoma

Hemorrhage on the head can result from injury:

  • with a heavy object;
  • impact when falling from a height, including the height of its own growth;
  • prolonged compression of soft tissue of the head.

The probability of hemorrhage increases with the concomitant pathology of blood and blood vessels - hemophilia, hemorrhagic vasculitis. The accumulation of blood can occur both after a direct, and after a sliding blow to the head.

The application of physical strength helps destroy the structure of the head - skin, muscles, periosteum, sometimes bones. In this case, blood vessels are damaged. Since the space between the skin and the periosteum on the head is not continuous, but separated by bridges - blood from damaged vessels accumulates in one area and forms hematoma.

Clinical picture

The subcutaneous hematoma on the head can be immediately detected visually. The area of the skin in the place of the hematoma rises above the rest. It has a burgundy-red color immediately after the injury, gradually the color changes. The color change is associated with the transformation of the hemoglobin of the blood - because of this, the hematoma first acquires a yellow-green, then a pale yellow color.

At palpation of a hematoma on a head from a blow the marked morbidity is marked. To the touch it is dense, it does not move to the sides. A person is worried about a local headache, eyesight or hearing can change.

To determine the presence of accumulated blood on the head, no additional research methods are required. However, they are needed to exclude more serious damage, for example, internal hematoma of the head. For this, radiography of the skull and computed tomography are used.

Treatment of

How to treat hematoma on the head? Conservative and operational methods are distinguished. The methods of conservative therapy include the following:

  • tight pressure bandage on the subcutaneous hematoma on the head to stop bleeding;
  • Heparin ointment on the area of the hematoma to improve its resorption;
  • Ascorutin in tablets to strengthen the walls of blood vessels.

If conservative therapy does not produce an effect and the hematoma persists, as well as the development of complications, surgical treatment should be used. It consists in puncture and removal of accumulated blood. If necessary, bleeding vessels are sutured.

After puncture, a tight bandage is applied to prevent repeated hemorrhages. Attachment of microbial flora requires the appointment of antibacterial drugs. Usually, these are broad-spectrum drugs - Amoxicillin, Ciprofloxacin.

Complications of

Symptoms of bruising in the head Consequences of hematoma in the head may be different. It can be a sign of more serious damage - fracture of the skull bones, intracranial hemorrhage. Symptoms of a hematoma in the head are headache, loss of consciousness, focal symptoms. Focal symptoms include: violation of speech and vision, impaired motor function.

Important! After hitting the head, even if there are no bleeding and bruising, it is necessary to be examined and make a computerized tomography of the brain. Internal hematoma, which is formed due to damage to the blood vessel of the meninges, can become a threat to human life.

The danger of internal hematomas is that the consciousness gradually fades as a result of slow compression of the brain tissue. By itself, the hematoma can be complicated by suppuration when attaching the microbial flora and forming an abscess. At the same time, there is an increase in body temperature, an increase in the formation and a change in its color, and an increase in soreness.

Hematoma from a stroke on the head, if it does not combine with serious damage, does not constitute a threat to human life. Treatment of uncomplicated form is in conservative therapy with the use of a bandage and heparin ointment. Puncture of a hematoma is necessary in case of inefficiency of conservative therapy.
