Symptoms and treatment of psychopathy Modern man very often has problems with mental state. And it's not surprising, because around us there are stresses, strains, lack of sleep and other factors that negatively affect the state of our nervous system. Sometimes disturbances in the psyche are poorly expressed and can easily be eliminated with the help of medication and stress relief. However, there are also cases when only a highly qualified doctor and special medicines can help. In this article, we will tell you about such a disorder as psychopathy.

Psychopathy: a general picture of the disease

The term psychopathy is a personality disorder that is very pronounced. It can be congenital or acquired. Such disorders give a person a lot of inconvenience in everyday life. With this disorder, the general structure of the personality is composed of unevenly developed features: some are practically absent, while others are expressed in excess. For example, excessive self-confidence and egocentrism can completely suppress an adequate self-assessment of their capabilities. Of course, such "jumps" periodically occur in each of us, but in people with psychopathy this is expressed constantly and because of this they become outcasts in society.

Along with this personality disorder is very different from the obvious mental illnesses. People with psychopathic character traits do not degrade over time, and do not become psychopaths. But nevertheless, there is no dynamics of improvement or deterioration. Such individuals do not lag behind in development, do not rave, their level of intelligence is absolutely normal. These people have special traits of character and behavior. They perceive the surrounding reality as they wish. At the same time, they completely deny the objective reality and the real state of things. Psychopaths are not able to adequately assess their behavior and do not tolerate any life lessons.

Causes of the development of the disease

Most often the disease begins to form as early as childhood, when a person develops emotional and volitional spheres in character. Some experts believe that psychopathic manifestations are not a disease, but are caused by a specific violation of the perception of the personality of the external world. The causes of such a violation are:

  • alcoholism of parents;
  • congenital inferiority of the central nervous system;
  • birth injury to the head;
  • severe illnesses that were transferred in early childhood;
  • encephalitis.

One important role in the formation of adequate personal characteristics of the child is played by proper parental upbringing. Psychologists distinguish several incorrect options for parental care:

  • hypoopeak - a child very much needs the authority of parents when they are not engaged in it;
  • hyperope - the authority of parents suppresses the child's personality;
  • the creation of "Cinderella" - the child is humiliated, beaten and exposed in a bad light before his peers and other people;
  • the creation of "idol" - parents fulfill all the whims of the child, thereby developing his egocentrism.

How is psychopathy diagnosed

Doctors confirm the diagnosis of psychopathy when a person has the following criteria:

  • indifferent attitude to people's experiences;
  • heavy relationships with others;
  • neglect of social norms and public order;
  • inability to bear the failures and defeats with dignity;
  • accusing other people of their failures;
  • lack of shame, guilt, inability to learn from their mistakes and irresponsibility;
  • aggressive behavior in the struggle for their needs and desires.

People with psychopathy have some characteristics in character traits:

  • hypocrisy, lies and treachery;
  • fights as a result of high aggressiveness and conflict;
  • lack of judgment and pathological impulsivity;
  • disrespect to the law;
  • causing harm to others without remorse for it;
  • weakened instinct of self-preservation, recklessness;
  • theft.

Symptoms of psychopathy

Externally, psychopathy can manifest itself in various forms. Based on the predominant behavior, several types of disease are distinguished:

Paranoiac psychopathy

People with this form of frustration are suspicious, too vindictive and do not respect other people. Because of this, they rarely get along with other people. In a family they are very hard, because they are jealous. Among such persons there are a lot of hypochondriacs who are convinced that they suffer from a dangerous or fatal illness.

Schizoid psychopathy

People with this form of frustration are self-contained, but at the same time have a rich imagination. They are absolutely useless in everyday life, as sometimes they indulge in fantasies and dreams, not noticing real life. Often they are fond of physics, mathematics or philosophy. They can be completely alone and feel at the same time comfortable, as the relationship with people they have cool.

Unstable psychopathy

These people have no willpower. They often make promises, but they immediately forget about them. They do not have a subjective point of view, and they follow the crowd. With close people they have a cold relationship. In the biography of such people there are often shoots from the house in childhood. These people are always in search of easy money. They often become drug addicts, alcoholics and criminals.

Excitable psychopathy

Such people can not be calculated until they begin to defend their interests. In the struggle for them, they can show different traits of character not in the best light: outbursts of anger, irritation, excessive aggression, lack of a sense of tolerance and tact. In childhood, such individuals often fight and quarrel with their peers. In adulthood, they often change jobs. In all the failures, blame other people.

Hysterical psychopathy

These are people - theatergoers. They behave themselves and try to be in the center of attention all the time. They have a very high opinion of themselves. They are suggestible, sociable and eccentric. They are constantly in search of love, although real attachment is not inherent in them.

Psychasthenic psychopathy

These are insecure and suspicious people. They are constantly worried about trifles. Such persons are punctual, diligent and hardworking. However, they rarely achieve promotion on the career ladder because of the inability to make important decisions and because of the fear of change.

Very often there are mixed types of psychopathy. Therefore, the doctor can refer the patient to an electroencephalogram to investigate the working capacity and condition of the brain. You may need to consult a psychoanalyst.

Treatment of psychopathy

When a person's behavior prevents him from being in society and to exist normally, medication is prescribed. Chronic bad mood is regulated by the use of antidepressants( Prozac, Fluoxetine and the like).The sense of anxiety is suppressed with the help of Phenazepam and Mezapam. Sometimes neuroleptic drugs are prescribed: Tizerin, Sonapaks, Holoperidol and the like. If the mood changes are too sharp and frequent, then anticonvulsants are prescribed.

Dosages should be monitored by close or native people, not the patient. The thing is that people with such a disorder very often take drugs at the doses they themselves consider necessary. Together with drug therapy, psychotherapeutic treatment is prescribed.
