Bartholinitis and its species

Bartholinitis may be acute, subacute or chronic. The disease can occur if the rules of hygiene of the genital organs are not observed, when the body is weakened, when the vagina self-cleaning function is violated, etc.

The most common one-sided inflammation of the Bartholin gland. During the disease, edema can clog the duct of the gland, which prevents the secretion of a purulent secretion. Lingering in the duct purulent discharge, stretch it and form a cyst, which is a purulent abscess. This place is very painful, often reaching the size of a chicken egg.

Bartholinitis is divided into three types - it is acute, subacute and chronic.

  1. In the acute course of the disease, the inflammatory process of the excretory duct of the gland develops, that is, the canaliculitis. From the outer opening of the excretory duct of the Bartholin gland an inflammatory secret is released, which causes reddening in the region of the labia minora near the aperture. Due to swelling and thickening of the secret, the excretory duct closes, which leads to a rapid spread of the inflammatory process. This is the way bartolinite occurs. The secret that accumulates in the ducts and glandular lobules acquires a putrefactive character in a short time, that is, a false abscess is formed. The patient has pain in the genital area, which increases with walking and sitting. Develops weakness, body temperature rises to 38 degrees. If the abscess is false or true to open, immediately comes relief, the pains go away, and the body temperature decreases. Out of the resulting hole, there are abundant purulent discharge. In the inflammatory process caused by E. coli there is a smell of stool.
  2. Subacute bartolinite differs from the acute form with less pronounced symptoms.
  3. Chronic bartholinitis occurs for a long time and is accompanied by frequent exacerbations that occur mainly during supercooling, with intercurrent diseases, as well as menstruation and other factors. The disease without exacerbation does not disturb the patient, only sometimes there are unpleasant sensations and pains in the area of the affected gland, especially during sexual intercourse. Body temperature is normal, well-being is normal. In most cases, a cyst is formed in the thick of the large labia.
