How does appendicitis excision work?

How is appendectis cut today, from which side does the pain appear and is it painful during this operation?

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the small process of the caecum, which is very dangerous for the human body.

The appendix can inflame a person of any gender and age.

The most common inflammation develops in children and young people.

Among injuries of the peritoneal organs, which are treated with surgery, appendicitis is more common.

If a person will suffer pain and do not turn in time to doctors, the inflammation becomes complicated and may result in death.

Many people are wondering why inflammation occurs, which side and how much it hurts when appendicitis? The appendix( appendix) is part of the large intestine, the process of the cecum.

It is located on the right side of the abdominal cavity, below. Its length is from 5 to 17 cm and 1 cm in diameter.

It is still unknown why this process is in the human body. Some doctors believe that it performs a protective function and protects the human intestines from aggressive bacteria.

There is also a version according to which the appendix is a vestigial organ that in the process of evolution ceased to fulfill its purpose millions of years ago.

For example, hoofed animals also have such a process. It is very developed and contains bacteria that facilitate the process of processing fiber by the body.

Often the patient believes that the appendix has become inflamed with him spontaneously, without any reasons, but in fact, inflammation of the appendage is caused by certain reasons.

Why the appendix is inflamed:

  • excessive mobility of the organ, as well as the bends of the process, which is common in children;
  • clogging the lumen of the shoot with stool for constipation, parts of unprocessed food( seeds, seeds), small elements( details of toys in children);
  • infections in the organs of the peritoneum of various origin;
  • inflammation of the colon;
  • the presence of any injury in the peritoneum.

The disease develops consistently. First, the process swells and inflammation gradually develops. At this time, a person feels pain in the upper part of the peritoneum, as well as nausea.

The next stage of the disease is purulent. In this period, purulent areas appear on the walls of the appendage, and the patient feels pain attacks on the right side.

Then comes the phlegmonous stage, during which the process becomes larger and filled with pus.

If before this time there was no surgical intervention, then a rupture of the process may occur.

Appendicitis is acute and chronic. Most often it is precisely the acute form, but chronic appendicitis is not so common.

Chronic appendicitis develops slowly enough, and the symptoms barely manifest.

Chronic appendicitis is characterized by blunt, quite tolerable pain, while nausea and fever may be absent. Chronic appendicitis can suddenly end - the inflammation will pass, and the pain will disappear.

Chronic appendicitis is difficult to diagnose. Modern medicine distinguishes three types of inflammation: chronic recurrent appendicitis, chronic residual and primary chronic.

What does the patient feel during appendicitis?

During an attack of acute appendicitis, the patient feels the following:

  • becomes very painful around the navel, then the pain spreads to the entire peritoneum. After a few hours, the pain focuses on one area, usually the lower right. The pain is constant, aching, and in children it is usually weak;
  • pain syndrome is accompanied by fever, and sometimes nausea and vomiting;
  • in some people the process is located behind the caecum, in this case the pain is felt in the lower back on the right or spreads all over the peritoneum;
  • if the process is located in the pelvis, the pain covers the iliac region and is accompanied by symptoms of inflammation of the uterus and bladder;
  • if the pain has suddenly passed, it does not mean that you should relax, it can talk about the rupture of the sore process. The patient is asked to cough and analyze if there is pain in the process area during a cough.

It is very important, before the doctors arrive, not to give pain medication to the patient, so as not to create difficulties for diagnosing the condition and not exacerbate the situation.

A person with suspicion of appendicitis can not drink and eat before the arrival of a doctor. It is forbidden to apply a heating pad to the affected area, since heat will accelerate the course of inflammation.

Instead of a hot water bottle on your stomach, you can put a bag of ice, so it was not so painful.

Treatment of appendicitis

Treatment of appendicitis is done only in one way - the affected appendix is excised. Cut appendicitis can be both under local and under general anesthesia.

To date, removal of the process is performed in two ways:

  1. traditional appendectomy is a classical operation. Doctors make a cut on the right side and clean the outgrowth of the intestine;
  2. laparoscopic appendectomy is a more rare option, in which the process is removed through small holes. Control over what is happening inside is done with a mini camera, which is inserted into one of the holes.

How to remove the process, select only a doctor. Since appendicitis is removed mostly urgently, the time to prepare for surgical treatment is minimal.

Before the procedure, the patient is forbidden to drink and eat. Most often, the operation is performed under local anesthesia, but if the patient is a small child or an overly excited adult, the operation is done under general anesthesia.

When a cavity operation, the doctor makes an oblique incision on the right side of the abdomen, 5 to 10 cm long, and then dissects the tissue layer by layer, reaching the cavity.

Laparoscopy

The doctor then determines the appendix and cuts off the affected area of the intestine. On the site of the cut-off section, the sutures are placed on the cecum, and the remainder of the process is inserted into the gut.

Next, the place where the appendix was removed is sanitized with an antiseptic and the wound is sewn. After the operation, antibiotic therapy is mandatory.

The cold area is applied to the sick site, pain medications are administered. Already after 2-3 days, bowel functions are restored.

To perform laparoscopy, doctors use a special device - a laparoscope. To it attach the mini-camera and through a small hole enter it into the cavity.

So the doctor sees all the organs and everything that happens inside the small pelvis. To remove the process, the doctor uses manipulators that are inserted through additional incisions.

This type of operation causes less injury to the body, in contrast to the cavity. In the postoperative period, the patient is not as painful as in the classical method.

What are the consequences of the treatment, is it painful after the operation? The rehabilitation period of the patient depends on how the procedure was performed, whether there were complications, under what anesthesia treatment was administered.

On the first day after the intervention, specialists observe the patient to identify signs of bleeding. Doctors monitor the temperature of the patient, the condition of the seam, the presence of pain, appetite.

It is also important to observe the state of physiological functions of the body - urination, defecation.

If necessary, then detoxify the patient. All this information will allow in case of complications to reveal them as soon as possible.
