Causes of bags under the eyes

There are many factors that contribute to the appearance of bags under the eyes. The skin of the eyelids is the thinnest, it is compensated by its large amount of elastic fibers. With age, she becomes much more vulnerable to adverse factors:

  • ultraviolet rays;
  • by the wind;
  • dry climate;
  • cosmetics;
  • detergents, etc.

In addition, aging, the human body loses more moisture. If the body of a newborn up to 80 percent or more consists of liquid, then in old age - up to 60.

The skin and elastic fibers are the first to take the blow from the lack of moisture, the latter gradually begin to be replaced by connective tissue, deprived of the ability to recover. Wrinkles form, after which the skin of the eyelids sags, and bags appear. Occasionally, fluid increasing in them and decreasing for any reason, for example, due to insufficient sleep, leads to a change in their size.

Another factor in the age-related manifestation of bags under the eyes is the weakness of the membrane, which contains fatty tissue. Sometimes a kind of hernia of this membrane is gradually formed.

Provoking factors

In addition to the above reasons that contribute to the formation of bags under the eyes in women aged 50 and older, the following factors should be highlighted:

  • poor quality cosmetics. The thin and delicate skin of the eyelids requires special care, the correct selection of funds for this particular area;
  • overvoltage. With constant lack of sleep, frequent stress and work at the computer, the skin of the eyelids first of all suffers;
  • improper nutrition. An unbalanced diet, excess fatty and salty foods are fraught with the accumulation of salts, toxins, and water imbalance;
  • drinking fluid before bedtime, as well as excess alcohol contributes to fluid retention, edema of periorbital tissue;
  • various diseases. Availability vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, renal and cardiac pathologies, respiratory infections, allergies, etc.

Hereditary factors also play an important role. With a genetic predisposition, when "bags" are passed from parents and, manifested in childhood or adolescence, persist throughout life. Finding out the cause and treatment in women should be carried out in a complex.

Symptoms

The formation of "bags" is influenced by two main components - the weakening of the membrane, which keeps fatty tissue in the eye socket and the accumulation of fluid between it and the skin of the lower eyelids in connective tissue. The manifestation of ordinary edema is influenced only by the last factor. Under these circumstances, symptoms may vary (see. photo above).

If the bags appear due to renal pathologies, then their softness and warmth are observed on palpation. First of all, they appear in loose connective tissues - eyelids, nasolabial triangle, etc. They are especially pronounced in the morning, gradually decreasing in the evening.

In women who smoke and drink, the skin becomes not as elastic with age as it used to be, the cells shrink, lacking moisture; fluid collects in the intercellular space, forming bags.

When the reason for the appearance of bags is hormonal disorders, then as a result of the accumulation of mucin, albumin (due to protein disorders exchanges) in the intercellular space, not only the eyelids swell, forming bags under the eyes, but also other soft tissues and internal organs.

With an infectious, especially viral, inflammation in the eye area, bags under the eyes can also form. Since, due to the anatomical density, the outer shell of the eyeball, the sclera does not swell or increase, the edema spreads to the eyelids. They can be so strong that only the slits in the eyes remain.
