Neurocirculatory dystonia (NCD, neurosis) is a variant of the VSD syndrome, in which a patient, due to failures in neuroendocrine regulation, a complex of functional disorders in the work of the organs of the cardiovascular systems.

The reasons for the development of NDCs are manifold. So, in adolescence, the disease usually occurs due to a sharp jump in hormones and the rapid growth of the body. In adult patients, this condition is more often a consequence of stress. In women, neurocirculatory dystonia occurs due to hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause.

Experts divide the causes of neurocirculatory dystonia into external and internal. The first include overwork, too active or vice versa - a sedentary lifestyle, the impact on the body of various vibrations or industrial radiation, smoking, alcohol abuse, as well as beverages that contain caffeine, hot and dry climate, improper parenting.

Among the internal causes of pathology, one can single out a genetic predisposition, changes in the work of the endocrine glands, individual characteristics the structure of the nervous system, the presence of infection in the body, chronic diseases of internal organs, allergic reactions, poor tolerance medicines.

Under the influence of these factors in humans, metabolic and neurohormonal regulation is impaired at the level of the cerebral cortex, hypothalamus, and also the limbic region. All this leads to malfunctions of the autonomic nervous and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal systems. In turn, this entails a disorder of neuroendocrine reactivity. In this case, a failure occurs in the microcirculation system of the endothelium, which causes a violation of its functions. In a patient who has already developed a disease, a link between stress and inflammatory markers is established.

The main links in the pathogenesis of neurocirculatory dystonia include:

  • disruptions in the relationship between the cortical-hypothalamic and hypothalamic-visceral systems;
  • too strong stimulation of the body with adrenal hormones;
  • increased sensitivity of vegetative formations, which are responsible for the work of internal organs;
  • malnutrition of internal organs, their regulation, as well as a general metabolic disorder.

It is the chain of these processes that causes changes in blood pressure and heart function, as well as a number of other unpleasant symptoms inherent in neurocirculatory dystonia.

What is NDC: symptoms in different patients and first aid

Scientists have counted about 40 signs of NCD, but one patient usually has from 9 to 26 symptoms. They may differ slightly, depending on what type of disease the patient has. Most often, patients complain of heart failure, increased heart rate and changes in blood pressure.

Often, at the same time, there is increased irritability, unmotivated aggression, a decrease in mood or its sharp jumps, as well as anxiety. At this time, the patient may feel short of breath or shortness of breath, dizziness, headache, hot flashes, a sensation of pulsating veins, nausea, pain in the solar plexus area.

Almost all patients with neurosis from time to time complain of pain in the region of the heart. In advanced cases, fainting or light-headedness may occur.

note

You should not try to diagnose NCD and treat it yourself at home. At the first symptoms of this disease, the doctor must first of all exclude serious diseases of the internal organs.

NCD symptomsIn children and adolescents, NCD manifests itself in poor tolerance of mental or physical stress, as well as in improper regulation of autonomic functions.

In this case, pathology can also arise due to a disproportion in the development of internal organs, rare outdoor recreation, the presence of bad habits and due to the underdevelopment of the regulatory apparatus.

The provoking factor for the development of NCD in childhood can be improper upbringing, which manifests itself in an overestimated demand for the child and excessive severity towards him. The disease appears somewhat more often in shy adolescents with low self-esteem.

The need for NCD treatment and what it is is fully understood during a crisis. It can be characterized by both a strong increase and a strong decrease in blood pressure. Any type of crisis requires the help of a qualified doctor. However, before the ambulance arrives, you need to independently provide the victim with first aid.

If the patient's pressure drops sharply, he needs to be laid on his back, and his legs should be raised so that they are above the level of the head. This is necessary in order for the blood to begin to flow to the brain in sufficient volume. After that, you should provide access to fresh air. If a person is wearing clothing that squeezes the internal organs, they should be unbuttoned.

With a strong drop in blood pressure, patients feel cold, so the patient needs to be warmed up. To improve the condition, the victim can be given a tincture of Eleutherococcus or radiola (20 drops). After that, he can be offered sweet tea and chocolate.

If a person's pressure has risen strongly, he should also be laid on his back or seated and at the same time try to calm down, eliminate the factor that caused stress, and provide fresh air. After that, the patient can be given 15-20 drops of motherwort, put mustard plasters on the back of his head and calf muscles, or make a hot bath for his feet. This is necessary in order for the blood to drain from the head to the legs. When joining heart pains, the patient can be given Nitroglycerin or Validol.

In the case of this pathology, there is some confusion. Not everyone understands what NDC is: a syndrome or a disease. Doctors answer this question unambiguously, NCD is a syndrome. This is explained by the fact that with it, a person is worried about a complex of unpleasant symptoms that are characteristic of several diseases at once.

In this case, organic damage to organs is not observed. For example, a patient may have heartache, vomiting, and lack of air, while the results of various studies show that his heart, stomach and lungs are completely healthy. That is, the syndrome is not yet a disease. Despite this, NDC has a strong impact on human life. That is why even the army knows about NDC and what it is.

For this reason, patients are often interested in whether they are taking into the army with dystonia.

It depends on how strongly the pathology manifests itself. If the patient has a temporary decrease or increase in pressure, or if he feels normal at a pressure of 90/60, then he may be considered fit for service.

If a young person complains of persistent manifestations of NCD, which cannot be eliminated by the use of drugs, has a reduced ability to work, increased or low body temperature and a violation of the heart rhythm, then it is likely to be recognized as "limited fit", that is, in peacetime he will be released from service in the troops.

However, in some cases, the NDC can be the reason for the complete release from the army. This happens if the conscript has a severely reduced ability to work, there is hypertension or sudden surges in pressure. Moreover, these symptoms do not lend themselves to elimination with medications.

NDC for hypertensive type, mixed and NDC for cardiac type: diagnosis

NDC during pregnancyNeurocirculatory dystonia is usually classified according to its clinical manifestations into cardiac (heart pain, myocardial dystrophy, interruptions in the heart rhythm) and vasomotor (dizziness, failures in thermoregulation, headaches pain).

Based on the type of crisis, NCD is vagoinsular, sympathoadrenal, or mixed. By the nature of the course, dystonia can be acute or in remission.

There are 4 types of this pathology: NDC for hypertensive type, NDC for hypotonic type, NDC for mixed type and NDC for cardiac type.

Neurocirculatory dystonia is severe, moderate and mild.

So, by hypertensive type NCD characterized by a severe increase in blood pressure (usually systolic) and dizziness with headaches.

Hypotonic dystonia on the contrary, it is characterized by low blood pressure in combination with signs of vascular insufficiency. In this case, patients always have a weak resistance of peripheral vessels. It is with this type of pathology that patients faint.

By mixed type NDC manifests itself in the form of pressure surges (from too low to very high and vice versa). Most often, these races are associated with the time of day and emotions. It is noticed that strong pressure surges are observed in the acute course of the pathology, while during remission, dystonia may not appear at all.

By cardiac type NCD the patient is characterized by regular interruptions in the work of the heart. Moreover, they do not depend on blood pressure or the performance of any physical work. Most often, this type of dystonia manifests itself in the form of an accelerated heartbeat or arrhythmia.

Since dystonia has similar symptoms to many diseases of the internal organs, a number of procedures are often required to diagnose it. As a rule, patients are recommended to undergo electrocardiography, fibroesophagogastroduodenoscopy (examination of the stomach and duodenum using a special device), MRI, CT, rheoencephalography (shows the state of the vessels of the head brain).

In addition, the diagnosis must necessarily include a general analysis of urine, blood and feces. In some cases, a hormone test and an ultrasound of the thyroid gland may be done. In the absence of any organ diseases, but the presence of their symptoms, neurocirculatory dystonia is diagnosed.

NCD during pregnancy manifests itself especially and clearly and has very pronounced symptoms. Thus, it is often difficult to diagnose this pathology even for a qualified specialist. Usually dystonia exists in women even before pregnancy, and during this period it only worsens.

Although in some cases, NCD occurs in completely healthy patients as a complication of pregnancy. This condition requires a mandatory consultation with a doctor, because it not only brings discomfort to a woman. It is also dangerous for the health of her child. So if a woman has a hypertensive type of NCD, then she may face late toxicosis, headache, irritability and insomnia. With low blood pressure, a woman will feel a lack of strength, drowsiness, decreased mood and apathy.

On the cardiac type, NCD during pregnancy can cause nutritional deficiencies for the fetus and embryonic hypoxia. It is incredibly difficult for the mixed type of NDC to be tolerated by pregnant women. In this case, the patient's well-being is constantly changing. She feels one or the other unpleasant symptoms. In severe cases, this pathology can serve as an indication of hospitalization of a pregnant woman.

The complexity of this situation also lies in the fact that pregnant women cannot take many medications. That is why the essence of therapy is reduced to normalizing the daily routine, proper nutrition, taking vitamin and mineral complexes, and good rest. It is very important that the woman is as nervous as possible while carrying the fetus. Fortunately, after childbirth, the signs of dystonia become much less pronounced, and sometimes even disappear altogether.

Neurocirculatory dystonia: treatment with medicines and folk remedies, prognosis

NCD treatmentTo improve their well-being, patients must observe the regime of work and rest. For this pathology, warm baths with soothing aromatic oils, relaxing massage, sports and outdoor walks will benefit.

During times of stress, it is recommended to visit psychologists for various trainings or do yoga. A person can be treated with medications as much as he wants, but the symptoms of the disease will be still be present (albeit to a lesser extent) if he does not learn to deal with anxiety and inner tension.

For patients with NCD, a special diet will help to make life easier, the essence of which is the moderate consumption of spicy and spicy foods, as well as the elimination of alcohol. At the same time, foods with a large amount of potassium (bananas, prunes and apricots), on the contrary, will have a positive effect on the nervous system.

As for the drug treatment of neurocirculatory dystonia, it must be supplemented with physiotherapy. For example, electrophoresis with sedatives on the collar area, circular shower, electrosleep, acupuncture. With an exacerbation of pathology, patients are recommended to take valocordin, valerian or motherwort. These funds will have a calming effect and normalize sleep. For the same purpose, you can use Afobazol and Glycine.

To prevent the occurrence of orthostatic disorders, a specialist may recommend medications based on caffeine or fethanol. With a strong increase in blood pressure, in order to avoid death, the patient is given beta-blockers or rauwolfia-based drugs.

With a decrease in mood, patients are prescribed Negrustin, a mild antidepressant from St. John's wort. Pantocalcin or some other nootropics can be used to improve thinking. To increase blood pressure, you can use a tincture of ginseng or lemongrass.

To achieve the best result, some patients combine medications with alternative methods of treating neurocirculatory dystonia. People with NCD can benefit from drinking red wine and eating lemon, beets, radishes, and carrots. Warm milk with the addition of honey can also be beneficial in this case.

It should be understood that when choosing a remedy, you need to build on the symptoms that bother the patient. So, people with hypertension are shown teas and decoctions of mint, birch buds, dill seeds, as well as calendula flowers. Magnolia or white mistletoe flowers can help lower blood pressure. In case of hypertension, coffee or black / green tea is best replaced with herbal tea. For example, you can mix blueberries and rowan berries, black currants and barberry in equal amounts and pour boiling water over everything in a ratio of 30 g per 250-300 ml.

With normal pressure or hypotension, you can drink rosehip tea, as well as a decoction of elecampane and immortelle. Freshly squeezed carrot juice can be of great benefit in this case. If the heart rhythm is disturbed, you can make a decoction from the fruits of hawthorn and valerian root.

Important

Do not take folk remedies lightly, because they are also drugs that have their own side effects. Before treatment with folk methods, you must definitely consult a doctor.

Prevention of NDCsThe prognosis of NCD in adolescents and children is favorable. As a rule, over time, they "outgrow" this condition. The neurosis itself often disappears in pregnant women. In other patients, with proper treatment, the pathology goes into a stage of remission, however, with the appearance of unfavorable factors, it can worsen again.

Despite the fact that NCD is not a disease, it is still impossible to let this condition take its course. Otherwise, the patient may develop a number of unpleasant complications, including stomach and duodenal ulcers, heart defects, acute circulatory disorders, bronchial asthma. In addition, their crises may become significantly more frequent (and they become more severe and prolonged, and recovery after them is getting worse). A long course of dystonia threatens with abnormal drowsiness and numbness of the limbs.

Neurocirculatory dystonia, the treatment of which is very difficult and long, is actually much easier to prevent than it might seem. Prevention of neurocirculatory dystonia consists in hardening the body, proper nutrition, giving up bad habits, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

To avoid dystonia, you need to avoid stressful situations, in time to eliminate foci of infection in the body, if necessary, to correct the hormonal background. Prevention of pathology in children and adolescents consists in their correct physical and psychological education, improving their self-esteem and developing self-confidence.
