Latex ligation of hemorrhoids: treatment with latex rings

Modern medicine offers several ways to deal with proctological ailments.

At the initial stage of development, the disease is eliminated by conservative methods, and at a later stage - by minimally invasive methods.

Hemorrhoid ligation is most often performed by proctologists. This procedure is the best alternative to surgery to remove hemorrhoids.

What is the popularity of this treatment method? How is it characterized and what are the consequences of its implementation? All answers in this article.

Characteristics of the ligation procedure

Treatment of hemorrhoids with latex rings is a minimally invasive treatment procedure during which inflamed hemorrhoids are pressed with rings of latex material.

This is done in order to obstruct the blood supply to the lump that has fallen out of the rectum.

Treatment of hemorrhoids with rings contributes to the fact that previously inflamed hemorrhoids are rejected by the body and die off.

Latex rings for hemorrhoids are good because they consist of a natural material that resembles rubber.

They do not cause an allergic reaction, as they do not contain allergens and harmful components.

The procedure has an indication - external or internal hemorrhoids of the 3rd degree. At this stage of development, the symptoms of the disease are clearly manifested. The patient suffers from:

  • Feelings of a foreign body in the anus.
  • Severe pain in the anus.
  • Anal bleeding.
  • Constipation.
  • Severe rectal burning and itching.

At stage 3 of the development of hemorrhoids, the bumps that have fallen out of the rectum are large enough.

A person suffering from this ailment loses the ability to move and sit normally. Constant pain in the anus cannot be stopped even with pain medications.

Ligation of hemorrhoids with latex rings allows you to stop this unpleasant symptomatology and save the patient from hemorrhoids.

Its main purpose is to relieve the patient of inflamed hemorrhoids. The procedure also helps to reduce skin swelling around the anus, as well as inflammation.

This procedure has a huge advantage compared to a surgical operation - the patient who undergoes it does not need to be in the hospital.

Anesthesia is not required for the manipulation. But these are not the only advantages of ligation.

After the procedure, the patient will recover in a short time. For comparison, the duration of the postoperative recovery stage is from 2 weeks to 1.5 months.

Who shouldn't be ligated

Some medical procedures, especially proctological ones, have a number of contraindications.

The compression of hemorrhoids will have to be abandoned by patients belonging to one of these categories:

  • 1 stage of development of hemorrhoids. It is characterized by under-formed buds. You can get rid of the disease that occurs at the initial stage with the help of rectal suppositories, ointments and baths.
  • Lack of a clear separation between the nodules (combined form of the disease). In this case, it will not work to pinch the inflamed and enlarged bumps.
  • Inflammatory disease of the pelvic organs. For example, ligation is not done for chronic paroproctitis.
  • Anal fissures and wounds. In this case, the procedure for compressing the nodes will provoke rectal bleeding, and the appearance of severe pain.
  • 4 stage of development of hemorrhoids. Proctologists rarely carry out this procedure at the 4th stage of the disease.

Preparing for the procedure

Before implementing any therapeutic method in proctology, doctors insist on the need for preparatory measures. Without them, you will not have to count on a positive effect of treatment.

Before the patient squeezes the inflamed bumps that have fallen out of the rectum, the doctor will ask him to pass the necessary tests. They are needed to make the correct diagnosis and determine the stage of the disease.

Also, before the procedure, the patient should not take medications that reduce blood clotting. The most popular drug in this group is Aspirin.

A very important preparatory measure is bowel cleansing. Before the ligation procedure, the patient must empty the intestines.

If he does not have the urge to defecate, you need to do an enema or take a laxative. Proctologists advise you to drink Levacol in such cases.

In some medical institutions, colon hydrotherapy is carried out. This is an absolutely painless procedure that is carried out for the purpose of intestinal cleansing.

This is an important rule, because the appearance of a chair on the first day after ligation is undesirable. In some cases, the proctologist will insist on additional preparatory measures.

Method specifics

When latex rings squeeze an inflamed and enlarged hemorrhoid, it is deprived of nutrition.

This contributes to its rapid withering away. When the node atrophies completely, the body will reject it. The remains of his body will be removed from the body along with the feces.

The approximate waiting time for a positive effect is 2 weeks.

The procedure begins with the introduction of a special device into the rectum - an anascope. The ligator then grabs the knot and pulls it into the latex ring.

It holds the bump very tightly, preventing it from slipping off. The material from which such a ring is made is completely harmless to the body.

A small scar is formed at the site of the former hemorrhoidal nodule. Sometimes during the procedure, the rings can wrap around the lump very tightly, squeezing it.

This will provoke the onset of pain. Therefore, during ligation, the proctologist should ask the patient if he is experiencing pain.

If the patient complains of severe discomfort in the anus, then the doctor gives him an anesthetic injection. The injection is made into the inflamed lump. After that, the pain should subside.

All medical manipulations should be carried out only on an outpatient basis.

The proctologist must remember that in 1 procedure he can ligate no more than 2 cones. It is important to stick to the plan while following the procedure. The doctor performs all actions in stages.

The break between such manipulations is from 2 to 4 weeks. Ligation can be performed in 2 ways: with a mechanical and vacuum ligator. Let's consider each of these methods.

Mechanical ligation ligation

During such manipulation, the patient should lie on the gynecological chair. He can sit on it or lie down, the main thing is to press his legs tightly to his stomach.

After the patient has settled down, the doctor inserts a special device into his rectum - an anascope. There it should be fixed.

It is important to fix the anascope so that the hemorrhoid is clearly visible.

Now it's the turn of the mechanical ligator. It is inserted into the anascope. Now the device should grasp the hemorrhoid with a soft clamp and pull it into the ligator. The head of the inflamed lump is clasped.

After that, the doctor presses the trigger of the device and the ligator is dropped onto the knot. The ring should squeeze the knot very tightly. If the doctor makes a mistake and squeezes the tissue surface of the anus instead of a knot, the patient will experience severe pain. Therefore, it is important not to make such a mistake.

This method of ligation is suitable for those patients whose hemorrhoids are clearly visible. If they do not have clear boundaries, then grasping their heads with a mechanical ligator will not work.

This procedure takes 10 to 20 minutes. The person to whom it is performed should not feel uncomfortable. Therefore, he is not given anesthesia.

Ligation with a vacuum ligator

Such a device is also inserted into the anascope, like a mechanical ligator. Before the introduction, it is connected with a special suction. The purpose of the suction is to create negative pressure.

The doctor covers the head of the vacuum ligator with his thumb after turning on the suction.

After that, the hemorrhoid should be pulled inward. When negative pressure is reached, the knot ring is released to the break.

The doctor now removes his finger from the suction port and equalizes the pressure in the head of the vacuum ligator.

It is important to equalize the pressure in time, since, otherwise, the hemorrhoidal lump may fall off. This will cause rectal bleeding and severe pain.

This technique is more convenient and easy to perform. Ligation with a vacuum device has a huge advantage - it can be used even if there are no clear boundaries between hemorrhoids. This procedure is carried out even if the bumps are difficult to see.

To achieve a therapeutic effect, one patient may need at least 2 such sessions.

When removing large nodules, an additional procedure may be required, since it will not be possible to cover the entire large neoplasm in 1 manipulation.

It is absolutely normal to have an uncomfortable feeling in the rectal area the day after vacuum ligation. If severe pain occurs, proctologists recommend taking an analgesic.

What is the danger of ligation

Sometimes such manipulations lead to negative phenomena. But, as medical practice shows, this is extremely rare.

An unpleasant side effect of ligation is the appearance of severe pain in the anus 1-2 days after the procedure.

In most cases, this symptom is the result of improper ligation. Also, discomfort in the anus may appear if the proctologist simultaneously treated more than 2 inflamed hemorrhoids.

A dangerous complication of such an operation is thrombosis of the external node. Again, its appearance is associated with a medical error.

Thrombosis of a hmorrhoidal lump may appear if it is incorrectly squeezed during the procedure. This complication is eliminated using the methods of conservative therapy.

Rectal bleeding after such an operation is extremely rare. Its appearance provokes the rupture of the latex ring due to excessive tension.

When straining, it can simply slip off. As a result, the patient will face not only rectal bleeding, but also severe pain in this area.

Rectal bleeding may appear after doping, during the recovery period. The reason is the patient's non-compliance with medical recommendations.

When restoring the strength of the body, it is important to protect yourself from physical stress, stress and malnutrition.

Also, to avoid complications, the patient must follow the rules for bowel movement.

Those who suffer from hemorrhoids should not ignore such symptom of its manifestation as constipation.

Failure in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract should alert. Probably, the disease proceeds in an aggravated form. In this case, it is necessary to undergo a second examination by a proctologist.

Also, to avoid the appearance of complications after ligation, you need to follow the rules of personal hygiene. Flush your rectal passage with soap after each bowel movement.

A few more words about rectal bleeding. It often makes itself felt during the first intestinal postoperative emptying.

That is why doctors insist on the need for preoperative defecation. This preventive measure will help prevent rectal bleeding 2 days after ligation.

Diet after ligation

In order for the recovery period to pass without the appearance of complications, it is necessary to follow the rules of a therapeutic diet.

Let's talk about them in more detail:

  1. On the first day after ligation, give preference to liquid food. For example, you can enjoy delicious fruit yogurt, broth, or meatless soup.
  2. On the second day, include in the diet foods that include plant fiber and fiber. For example, you can boil puree. Drink food with fruit juice or dried fruit compote.
  3. Follow your drinking regimen. The standard dose of water that a healthy adult should drink is 1.5-2 liters. This is the daily rate! Don't deviate from it.
  4. Eat vitamins. Remember that the greatest amount of vitamins and minerals is found in fruits and vegetables. Do not heat them before use.

Finally, I would like to give a few more tips. First, avoid heavy lifting during your recovery period.

Secondly, walk in the fresh air as much as possible. Hiking promotes stagnation of blood in the pelvic organs.
