Factors causing purulent appendicitis and methods of its treatment

Purulent appendicitis is an inflammatory process, accompanied by severe pain in the epigastric part, vomiting, fever.

When examining a patient, the doctor is based on symptoms specific to purulent appendicitis. It is possible to eliminate the disease only surgically.

Special attention should be given to the patient in the postoperative period. A patient needs peace and a proper diet.

Why does appendicitis occur?

Purulent appendicitis occurs as a result of falling into the wall of the appendix of Escherichia coli, enterococcus and other microbes.

They are always in the intestine of a healthy person, but under the influence of certain factors can get into the wall of the appendix.

The process and reasons for getting microbes into the appendix are not fully understood by science.

Since childhood, perhaps everyone has heard that the right diet is important for a person, otherwise an inflammatory disease will appear - appendicitis.

There is also some truth in this. The causes of the appearance of pathology - blockage of the appendix entrance by foreign bodies, tumors and coprolites.

Pus in appendicitis

There are also causes that cause a purulent form of appendicitis:

  • vasculitis;
  • microflora, which has specific features;
  • dysfunction of cells of the endocrine system;
  • is the wrong diet.

Appendicitis can occur in a person at any age. Young people under 35 years of age are more likely to get sick, since a proper diet is not their norm.

In infants and in people after 50 years of illness can be very rare.

In elderly patients, children and expectant mothers, the causes of appendicitis may be the same, but the symptoms are different. In children, the disease develops quite quickly.

At the first stage of appendicitis, nausea and severe vomiting occur. Small patients complain of pain in the abdomen.

Inflammation of the appendix

In elderly people, symptomatology often is not pronounced. As a result, it is not always possible to determine the disease in time and take the necessary measures.

In pregnant women, pain sensations are shifted, making it difficult to diagnose pathology.

Regardless of the reasons for the development of purulent appendicitis, the patient should be urgently hospitalized and operated. After that, diet and medication support are important.

Stages of the disease

Purulent appendicitis has several stages. Each of them has its own characteristics.

The development of the phlegmonous stage of the inflammation of the appendix occurs within a day after the onset of the disease.

At this stage, there is lymphocytic infiltration of the layers of the intestinal wall. The appendix is filled with pus. Inflammatory process moves to the abdominal cavity.

During this period, the patient feels severe pain, which is localized to the right in the ileum of the abdomen. The patient's body temperature rises sharply.

It can be more than 38 degrees. Blood tests show an elevated level of leukocytes.

The next stage of the disease is gangrenous appendicitis. It begins 1 to 3 days after the onset of the inflammatory process.

At the point of the appendix, where there is coprolite or other foreign body, an ulcer appears.

The blood supply to the appendix is drastically reduced, resulting in necrotic processes.

They are characterized by less pronounced pain sensations. Together with this, the general health of the patient worsens, symptoms such as fever, intoxication, general weakness appear. A blood test shows an elevated level of white blood cells.

The perforating stage of the inflammatory process may occur already the next day after the onset of the disease.

It is characterized by a break in the wall of the appendage, as a result of which the pus penetrates the peritoneum. A similar condition creates an acute complication-spilled peritonitis.

The patient at this time feels very strong pain. A blood test at this stage of purulent appendicitis will show an increase in C-reactive protein and leukocytes.
The stage of complicated acute appendicitis can develop no earlier than a day after the onset of the disease.

Necrotic and perforating processes cause a large number of complications, including sepsis, abscess, diffuse peritonitis and others.

During this period, the patient may experience a shock. If timely not to take urgent measures, then a fatal outcome may occur.

How to treat the disease?

Self-treatment of purulent appendicitis is life-threatening. The disease must be eliminated only by surgical intervention.

The type of operation depends on the stage of the pathology: on the phlegmonous or gangrenous stage laparoscopy can be applied.

If pus enters the peritoneum as a result of perforation of the appendix wall, then laparotomy is mandatory. In this case, the surgeon conducts a thorough examination of the abdominal cavity.

After the operation, the patient should not get out of bed 10 to 12 hours. During this period, his diet should consist only of liquid food. On 3-4 days you can start entering bakery products.

The period of the patient's disability after the operation is about a month. If laparoscopic appendectomy was performed, then the patient's rehabilitation will be faster.

During the entire rehabilitation period, a diet should be observed, the patient should be at rest.

After the operation for the patient is important not only a diet. The doctor will definitely appoint him medicines that will support the patient and accelerate the rehabilitation period.

These include antibiotics, agents that support the patient's immunity, drugs against the fungus.

Do not wait for the onset of purulent appendicitis. It is necessary to carry out preventive measures to prevent the onset of the disease. Diet is an important component of prevention.

It is not necessary to eat a large amount of meat food and monitor the work of the intestines. The diet should be designed in such a way that the body cleanses regularly.

Appendicitis is dangerous for its complications, so it's worthwhile to closely monitor your body.
