Etiology of the phenomenon

The baby may develop green diarrhea for the following reasons:

  • meconium, which is associated with the peculiarity of the stomach in the first days after birth;
  • the process of the formation of the gastrointestinal tract - before the formation of the gastrointestinal tract, the baby has green diarrhea;
  • breastfeeding - due to the absorption of low-fat, primary mother's milk, liquid green feces are observed in a newborn;
  • features of the mother's breast - the symptom in question can be observed in children of mothers with tight breasts or inverted nipples. This physiology delays the process of stool formation;
  • mom's nutrition - if the mother's diet contains an excessive amount of carbohydrates and green vegetables;
  • IV - against the background of feeding the baby with a milk mixture, which contains iron (Nutrilon), green diarrhea is provoked;
  • introduction of complementary foods - against the background of the primary consumption of apples, broccoli and pears, the color of feces may change in a child.

More dangerous causes can lead to the appearance of green diarrhea. If loose stools go more than 12 times a day, while the baby is experiencing severe abdominal pain, the pediatrician may diagnose intestinal infection.

This disease is characterized by vomiting and high fever. Its pathogens are viruses, bacteria and fungi.

If parents suspect an intestinal infection, it is recommended to call a doctor, before whose arrival the baby is given an electrolyte solution.

It helps to replenish lost fluid and mineral salts. In the absence of such therapy, the risk of dehydration increases, which is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • lethargy;
  • sinking fontanelle;
  • dry skin;
  • circles under the eyes;
  • dark urine;
  • circles under the eyes.

Against the background of the above-described clinic, convulsions with respiratory arrest may occur. To save the baby, you need to put on a dropper.

If a baby has green diarrhea accompanied by constant vomiting, it must be given fractionally and often to drink.

The elevated temperature is knocked down by an antipyretic agent (Nurofen). The baby is contraindicated to take antibiotics without consulting a pediatrician.

With an intestinal infection, the baby is given bacteriophages:

  • Enterofurill;
  • Niforoxazide.

In the presence of dysentery and salmonellosis, antibiotics are indicated.

Another dangerous reason for the appearance of green diarrhea is dysbiosis or dysbiosis, which is associated with a violation of the qualitative and quantitative composition of the intestinal microflora.

This phenomenon occurs in infants for the following reasons:

  • low immunity;
  • allergy;
  • poor nutrition.

In the conditions described above, pathogenic microbes multiply, green diarrhea is provoked, and the stomach swells.

To prescribe therapy, it is necessary to donate feces for dysbiosis. On the basis of the decoded data, antibiotic therapy is prescribed.

If pathogenic bacteria are identified, the baby is additionally prescribed pro- and prebiotics, sorbents.

For the prevention of dysbiosis in infants up to a year of life, it is recommended to breastfeed. In the absence of such an opportunity, the baby is given fermented milk or probiotic mixtures.

Manifested clinical picture

More often in infants, green diarrhea is complemented by other symptoms. Therefore, pediatricians advise parents to constantly monitor the child in order to identify new deviations from the norm in his current state.

If green diarrhea is accompanied by a high fever, the pediatrician can diagnose dysentery or salmonellosis. To make an accurate diagnosis, differential diagnostics is carried out.

In the presence of loose stools with foam, dysbiosis or intestinal infection can be suspected. Dysentery is characterized not only by green diarrhea with mucus, but also with blood.

With salmonellosis, the color of the stool is dark green, and with intestinal upset, it is light green. If the baby has dysbiosis, then the smell of feces will be rotten, and with an intestinal infection - fetid.

Frequent regurgitation and green loose stools indicate dysbiosis in infants. If vomiting is profuse and persistent, then salmonellosis may develop.

When making an accurate diagnosis, the general condition of the baby is taken into account. Crying, insomnia, lack of appetite, whims - an additional clinic of intestinal infection.

If green diarrhea is not accompanied by fever and other symptoms described above, parents should not panic. After a certain time, the discomfort will disappear.

Diagnostics

To eliminate diarrhea, you need to undergo a laboratory test:

  • bacterial culture of feces and vomit;
  • study of feces for dysbiosis;
  • examination of the rectum;
  • examination of urine and blood;
  • coprogram.

Therapies

If diarrhea of a green tint is provoked by a disease, the following therapy is prescribed for the baby:

  • health food;
  • probiotics, bacteriophages, including Acipol, Enterol, Bifidumbacterin, will help against dysbiosis;
  • antibiotics and chemotherapy drugs (Nevigramon, Kanamycin, Meronem), specific bacteriophages, enterosorbents, lactoglobulins will help against intestinal infection;
  • with allergies, anti-allergic drugs will help.

To eliminate diarrhea, antidiarrheal drugs (Imodium) are indicated. Enzyme remedies will help:

  1. Creon.
  2. Pancurman.
  3. Pancreatin.

Oral rehydration is carried out with the help of Regilron, Oralitom, Gastrolitoma. If diarrhea is accompanied by abdominal pain, the baby is prescribed Spasmomen 40.

In difficult cases, diarrhea can be triggered by a disease that requires surgical treatment. Such therapy is necessary to avoid complications of the identified disease.

In the absence of timely treatment for a serious pathology, the following complications may develop in an infant:

  • convulsions with fever;
  • severe dehydration of the body;
  • dysbiosis can provoke dermatitis and bronchial asthma. In severe cases, a chronic form of gastroduodenitis, intestinal dyskinesia develops;
  • in the absence of therapy for intestinal infection, neurotoxicosis, GM edema, electrolyte disturbance, infectious toxic shock, sepsis, HUS, toxic and dystrophic conditions develop;
  • against the background of dysentery, intestinal bleeding, pericolitis, arthritis, neuritis, malnutrition, anemia, pneumonia develop, the rectum falls out.

To prevent the development of the above-described diseases and syndromes, it is recommended to show the baby to the doctor in a timely manner. Modern pediatricians advise to prevent such phenomena.

Parents should be involved in the prevention of the ailments described above.

Preventive measures

Pediatricians identify general and individual principles for the prevention of the above causes of green stool.

Individual preventive measures are developed for each child separately. This takes into account the current state of the child.

Common preventive measures for green stool in infants include:

  • adherence to diet - nursing mothers must adhere to proper nutrition;
  • prohibiting nursing mothers from taking antibiotics;
  • the baby is fed with a mixture prescribed by the attending pediatrician;
  • gradual introduction of complementary foods. If a green stool appears - the reaction of the child's body to the introduced new product. In this case, it is excluded from the diet. Its re-entry is permissible after the full formation of the child's gastrointestinal tract;
  • avoiding excessive consumption of carbohydrates and greens;
  • parents should not lick the baby's pacifiers and spoons. Adult saliva can contain intestinal infections.

If, following the above measures, a liquid stool of a green tint appears, while other symptoms appear, it is recommended to urgently consult a pediatrician.

In this way, parents can reduce the risk of developing serious complications.

Timely treatment of the baby will prevent the development of various consequences, the elimination of which will require hospitalization, outpatient and surgical treatment.
