Do they take into the army with a stomach ulcer
Do they take into the army with a stomach ulcer or 12 duodenal ulcer? The question worries young people of military age and parents. This pathology is often found in men of 18-28 years of age with a lean physique. Stress, unhealthy diet, heredity contribute to the onset of the disease. Should such young men serve in the military, and how often should they be tested? Is it acceptable to serve on a contract basis? In recent years, the army has become a prestigious source of high income. This will be discussed in the article.
The reasons for the development of peptic ulcer there are irregular meals with a large amount of spicy food consumed, food "dry", "on the run". Stress, smoking, strong coffee, drunk on an empty stomach contribute to the occurrence of ulcers. Often, ulcers are caused by a microorganism called Helicobacter pylori, a parasite on the stomach wall. As a result of damage to the gastric mucosa or duodenal ulcer, irritation, inflammation occurs, initially gastritis or duodenitis occurs. There is an increase in the formation of hydrochloric acid, which irritates the mucous membrane. Inflammation gradually affects the lining of the stomach or duodenum, an ulcer forms.

Liberation from the army
After passing a thorough examination, the degree of suitability of the conscript for military service is determined. When determining the degree, the military medical commissions use the government decree No. 565 of 04.07.2013.
Contraindications for military service
Conscripts with pathology are recognized as unfit for service:
- Complications of the disease. This includes penetration, perforation of an ulcer into neighboring organs. These complications are characterized by severe pain, symptoms of intoxication, and an increase in body temperature. When symptoms appear, a threat to the health and life of a person arises, immediate hospitalization and an operation are required. With an old ulcer, pyloric stenosis is often formed, appetite is greatly reduced, and body weight decreases (index weight becomes less than 19 kg / m2), during radiography of the stomach, the contrast is delayed for 24 hours and more.
- Profuse bleeding from a peptic ulcer with a thirty percent decrease in blood volume.

Bleeding from stomach ulcers
- A performed operation on the stomach or duodenum - partial removal of the stomach, accompanied by poor nutrition, a decrease in body mass index below 19 kg / m2.
In the absence of the listed complications, conscripts are recognized as partially fit for military service. The conscript is released from the draft, a military ID is issued, the young man is enrolled in the reserve. Restricted youth are not subject to periodic re-examination. The adopted resolution has been in effect since 2005. It is allowed to call such a person into service in time of war. During the examination, as proof of the presence of peptic ulcer disease, a scar is revealed at the site of the transferred duodenal ulcer or stomach ulcer.
Contraindications for contract service
If a conscript is doing military service under a contract, a number of manifestations of the disease have been established, according to which the guy is recognized as fit with minor restrictions. The man will serve in a limited number of troops: airborne, border troops, tanks and submarines, infantry, internal troops, chemical defense troops, artillery and missile systems, signalmen. Limitations include:

Regular follow-up by a doctor
- Frequent exacerbations twice a year during the past two years.
- Large ulcers with a diameter of more than 2-3 cm.
- Within 5 years after the operation of callous ulcers.
- Multiple ulcers.
- Long-term healing ulcers within 2-3 months.
- Severe scars after ulcers or iron deficiency anemia after ulcerative bleeding.
The procedure for passing the medical examination
If peptic ulcer diagnosis is known to the conscript in advance, the man has already undergone examination and treatment for an illness, it is necessary to bring the necessary documents confirming the diagnosis to the military enlistment office. The military medical commission will send for a second examination to confirm the disease to a medical organization assigned to the military registration and enlistment office. You will have to pass urine, blood tests, fibrogastroduodenoscopy again.

Medical examination of conscripts
If the peptic ulcer is confirmed, the passage of the medical commission in the military registration and enlistment office will end, and the conscript will not need to be observed in the future. If in other diseases (for example, epilepsy) exacerbations are not observed within 5 years, a second examination is required. In the case of peptic ulcer disease, the rule does not apply. Exemption from the army is given, regardless of the age of the exacerbation of peptic ulcer disease, for life.
Clinic of the disease
Patients with ulcers often complain of abdominal pain after eating, heartburn, and nausea. The time of onset of pain depends on the location of the ulcer. When a defect is located in the stomach, pain appears twenty to thirty minutes after eating. A duodenal ulcer leads to late pain, an hour and a half after eating. Painful sensations occur on an empty stomach or at night. Pain decreases after drinking milk, soda, taking drugs that reduce gastric secretion.
The disease manifests itself in periods of exacerbation and remission. During an exacerbation (more often in spring and autumn), an ulcerative defect forms, pain, nausea, heartburn, and other manifestations of an exacerbation of the disease are present. After treatment, possibly independently, the ulcer is scarred with the formation of a mucosal defect, the ulcer is covered with connective tissue.
Perhaps a mild course of the disease, when an exacerbation occurs no more than once a year. With a moderate course of the disease, symptoms appear twice a year, requiring compulsory treatment. A severe course is characterized by frequent exacerbations two or more times a year, with a similar course of the disease, complications often appear.
With the long-term existence of an ulcer and the absence of proper treatment, complications are possible:
- Ulcer perforation - damage to the walls of the stomach or duodenum 12 with the appearance of a hole in the wall through which the contents of the stomach penetrate into the abdominal cavity, peritonitis occurs.
- Sometimes the hole formed in the wall is covered by a nearby organ (for example, the pancreas), then, in addition to developing peritonitis, inflammation of another organ occurs.
- Bleeding from a peptic ulcer leads to anemia, with volumetric blood loss, dark brown vomiting, pallor, and severe weakness appear.
- With old ulcers, a pronounced scar is formed in the area of the transition of the stomach into the duodenum, which impedes the passage of food, and stenosis of the pylorus is formed.
Diagnosis and treatment
Examination of the abdomen reveals pain on palpation in the stomach under the xiphoid process (in the epigastrium). If a disease is suspected, the doctor will prescribe an examination - a general analysis of urine and blood, fluoroscopy and fibrogastroduodenoscopy of the stomach. Examination reveals a defect in the gastric mucosa or a duodenal ulcer. To detect Helicobacter pylori, a breath test is used, antibodies in the blood are determined. During endoscopic examination, a biopsy is taken to determine the cellular composition.
For the treatment of peptic ulcer, drugs are prescribed that reduce the production of hydrochloric acid, antibacterial therapy for Helicobacter pylori is prescribed, healing agents, and physiotherapy are prescribed. Complications are treated surgically.
