Iodinol from nail fungus

Composition, release form and price

The drug is available in the form of a water-based solution, painted in a dark color. It has a second name - "blue iodine".

The composition of Iodinol (100 ml) includes:

  • 0.1 g of iodine;
  • 0.3 g of potassium iodide;
  • 0.9 polyvinyl alcohol.

The drug breaks down on contact with sunlight, alkali and low temperatures, it dissolves well in water. So that it does not lose its qualities, it is recommended to store Iodinol in its original packaging at room temperature. The medicine is safer than the traditional alcoholic solution of iodine, as it has less toxicity.

The product is available in opaque plastic or glass bottles with a volume of 50 and 100 ml. The cost of 100 ml of the drug is from 25 rubles in Russia and from 135 hryvnia in Ukraine.

pharmachologic effect

Iodinol is an affordable and at the same time effective remedy, which, unlike many analogs and folk methods, is able to remove even old particles of mycospores. The drug destroys pathogenic yeast-like microflora even with an advanced stage of onychomycosis.

Iodinol has the following medicinal properties:

  • antifungal;
  • antiseptic;
  • bactericidal;
  • regenerating.

With the help of polyvinyl alcohol, the effectiveness of the drug is prolonged. Slow splitting of active ingredients makes it gentle on nails and skin, does not provoke irritation.

The active substances penetrate directly into the cell membrane of the causative agents of onychomycosis, destroying the protein fractions. Microorganisms die, their growth and development is disrupted.

Instructions for use for onychomycosis

In folk medicine, Iodinol is often recommended as an effective remedy against fungal infections. The recommended duration of treatment is no more than 5 days.

Compress. A gauze napkin is moistened with Iodinol and applied to the foci of onychomycosis. Wrap it up with cellophane wrap and fix it with a bandage. The compress is left on all night and day. It is allowed to be worn around the clock, changing every 12 hours for a fresh one.

Compress with Iodinol

During this period of time, the causative agents of the disease die, and the tissues of the nail plate become softer, allowing the upper layer to be scraped off. By the end of the fifth day, with uncomplicated forms of mycotic infection, the old nail completely comes off, and the growth of healthy tissues begins under it.

If this does not happen, you need to pause for 3-5 days, and then carry out a new course of treatment. Or use alternative fungicidal agents of a local nature, since further use of Iodinol may be undesirable.

Lubrication of nails. With candidiasis and mycosis, the nails are treated with Iodinol solution 2 to 4 times a day. The drug is left on damaged tissues until completely absorbed. Bandaging is not required.

Baths. One of the most popular options for dealing with nail fungus. Pour 2 liters of hot water into the basin. Add a small amount of Iodinol until the liquid turns unsaturated blue. Dip your feet or hands into the bath for 20 minutes. After the procedure, wipe your feet and remove the softened tissue with a pumice stone and nail scissors. After finishing the treatment, apply a thin layer of Iodinol on the nail roller. Manipulations are carried out 2 times a day.

Baths

Ointment. Grind the dry celandine plant to a powdery state in a coffee grinder. Pour the product into a small container and add a little Iodinol to make a gruel. Treat the foci of onychomycosis with ointment in the morning and evening, leaving the drug on the nails for 30 minutes.

The course, as in previous cases, should not exceed 5 days. During this time, the old nail, affected by the fungus, usually completely disappears.

Other folk recipes. In addition to the listed ways of using the drug, Iodinol can be found in some alternative medicine. Let's find out more about them.

  • Iodinol is mixed with table vinegar or apple cider vinegar in a 1: 1 ratio. The composition is used to treat the foci of onychomycosis once a day. The recommended course of treatment is 1 month, provided that the drug is well tolerated. Then you need to take a mandatory break for 14 days, and repeat the treatment again according to the same scheme.
Application with vinegar
  • By analogy with the previous recipe, Iodinol is mixed with medical alcohol in equal proportions. The tool is applied to the nails 2 times a day. The recommended course is 2 weeks. Then repeat the treatment, but reduce the treatment with the mixture to once a day.

Do not mix the drug with hydrogen peroxide and other antiseptic agents, except for medical alcohol and 9% vinegar. This is due to the fact that Iodinol is a powerful and aggressive medication. And in other cases, it is recommended to use it to combat onychomycosis as an independent remedy.

Any combinations based on the combination of Iodinol with other drugs or its independent use cannot be practiced without the knowledge of the doctor. Specialist approval for treatment reduces the risk of developing adverse reactions from the body.

Use in children, pregnant and lactating

Treatment of nail fungus with Iodinol is contraindicated in childhood due to the toxicity of the drug and the risk of developing systemic side effects. The same recommendation applies to women who are expecting a baby or breastfeeding.

In these situations, you should use safer, alternative folk or medication methods to combat onychomycosis, after prior consultation with your doctor.

Contraindications and side effects

Iodinol is prohibited for external use in the following cases:

  • children under 5 years of age;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • individual hypersensitivity to iodine;
  • pathology of the thyroid gland.

Doctors insist that with a nail fungus, the drug should not be used with a therapeutic or prophylactic for more than 5 days (an exception may be combined prescriptions with additional medicinal means). Otherwise, the body is oversaturated with iodine compounds, iodism is formed, which negatively affects the functioning of the thyroid gland.

Side effects of the drug include:

  • general weakness;
  • rashes on the skin;
  • violation of well-being;
  • convulsive syndrome.

A repeated course of treatment with Iodinol can be carried out only if the therapy regimen is agreed with a specialist. There should be a pause of several days between its use.

Analogs

The closest in composition to Iodinol is the usual 5% alcohol solution of iodine. It also has a proven antifungal effect. But it acts more aggressively on nails and skin, therefore it is recommended for the treatment and prevention of mycotic infections much less often.

Any antiseptics containing iodine are considered as substitutes for Iodinol. This list includes the drugs listed in the table.
