Pain in the abdomen of children

With abdominal pain in children, parents are asked two questions: is this pain really? How painful is it? This is a very difficult problem for both parents of a child who has abdominal pain and doctors. The causes of pain in the abdomen in young children are many. However, there are reasons that occur most often.

Causes of acute pain in infants

Intestinal obstruction is accompanied by the fact that part of the intestine enters the next part of the intestine( for comparison, how the umbrella enters the cover). This problem occurs in children aged 5-9 months, less often in children older than 2 years. There is a sudden pain and, as a rule, happens paroxysmal, thus the child starts to grow pale, there can be a nausea, vomiting. In feces an admixture of mucus and blood is observed. When palpation of the abdomen, usually a palpation is felt. In such cases, a surgeon's consultation is required. This problem is mainly solved by surgical intervention.

Colic - this malaise is not fully understood, although it occurs in many infants. The appearance of colic does not affect the nature of feeding. The child starts suddenly "screaming, moreover, on one note", the child is rushing, legs are pressing to the chest, and after 10-30 everything passes. It was noted that colic occurs mainly in the afternoon hours.

Abdominal pain in older children

The cause of abdominal pain is overeating, bloating due to the accumulation of gases. The pain arises from the fact that the intestines swell. In this case, the child should be examined.

Appendicitis occurs in children older than 2 years( about 1 in 6 children), up to 2 years is rare. In children, the removal of the appendix is the most frequent operation that doctors perform. Recognize appendicitis in some children is difficult, because the pain appears only after the appendix breaks and pus gets into the abdominal cavity. As a result, peritonitis and severe pain begin to develop, by the way, for the child's life such consequences are dangerous for life.

Inflammation of the kidney is mainly in girls. In this case, the pain first appears in the lower back or in the side, the child often urinates. All this is accompanied by vomiting, nausea, fever.

Inflammation of the testicles occurs in boys with a bruise, twisting of the testicles, scrotal hernia. The pain in this case is remote in the direction of the nerve fibers, the pain from the scrotum is lowered down the abdomen.

Stretching of the abdominal muscles usually results from excessive physical activity, vomiting or coughing. Pain occurs only if the child walks or sits upright. The pain is sharp and sudden. Appetite is preserved, the general condition of the child is not violated.

Infectious inflammation of the liver can cause a virus that gets into the body of the baby with food. A few days later sclera eyes and skin begin to acquire a yellow color, and urine becomes dark in color. The enlarged liver stretches the capsule, as a result of which it tenses and severe pains appear.

Causes of chronic pain

A psychological problem can also cause abdominal pain, found in almost 10% of schoolchildren. In 90% of cases, it is not possible to identify the physical cause of pain. Pain can be caused by stress, anxiety, or other psychological factors. In this case, the children complain of the emerging and disappearing pain of a dull character, localized around the navel. These children have nausea, headache, they look tired and pale. Most often, these manifestations are themselves, but not to miss the disease for the child should be observed.

If the pain in the abdomen is due to a psychological cause, then the child should be more careful and try to find the cause, because the pains are strong enough. In some cases, a conversation with teachers and counseling of a psychologist are required.
