click fraud protection

Spermogram is a laboratory study of seminal fluid in order to assess the structural and functional characteristics of spermatozoa. It is carried out to diagnose infertility in men.

Preparing for the

study In order for the results to be as accurate as possible, the man needs to prepare for the spermogram. Preliminary preparation plan contains such items:

  1. Abstention from sexual acts and masturbation for 2 days. It is important to remember, abstinence should not exceed 1 week, as the amount of weakened and dead sperm increases in the ejaculate( see "Sexual abstinence - benefit or harm?").
  2. Compliance with recommendations regarding nutrition. For 5-6 days before spermogram delivery, a man should refrain from consuming spicy, fried and fatty foods. Also, the use of products containing caffeine is contraindicated. It is necessary to give preference to fresh fruits and vegetables, low-fat varieties of fish and meat.
  3. Abstention from smoking and drinking alcohol for 7-8 days before sperm delivery( read in detail about how many do not drink before conception).In the case of taking any medication, a man should notify the doctor responsible for the laboratory test.

  4. If a man suffers from respiratory-viral diseases, accompanied by a rise in body temperature, then he must postpone the surrender of the seminal fluid for analysis. Against the background of general intoxication of the body, the quantitative and qualitative parameters of the sex cells deteriorate. The delivery of the analysis is permissible only after 10-14 days after recovery.
  5. It is strictly forbidden to perform spermogram in such diseases as prostatitis and urethritis. To begin with, a man should undergo a course of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory therapy. Laboratory analysis of seminal fluid can be performed 7-8 days after recovery.
  6. Before submitting the biological material for analysis, it is recommended to refrain from visiting saunas, baths and tanning salons. Thermal effect on the area of the external genital organs, leads to a disruption of the act of maturation of the reproductive cells( see "The effects of overheating of testicles in men").
  7. A few days before the study, you must refrain from excessive emotional and physical exertion. It is not recommended to attend a gym, classes in which lead to the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscle tissue. This substance adversely affects the spermogram.
  8. If a man undergoes a course of treatment that involves performing a prostate massage, then before giving the test, you must abandon this procedure.

On the eve of the day of delivery of seminal fluid, a man should as best as possible rest and sleep. Insufficient sleep and emotional stress lead to a breakdown in erectile function, which entails problems with the removal of the biomaterial.

Possible deviations in the indicators of

Not always the parameters of the spermogram are within the physiological norm. The main violations of the quantitative and qualitative composition of the ejaculate are:

  • necrosis osmosis. This indicator means the complete absence of live male germ cells in the ejaculate;
  • akinosoospermia. With this symptom, immobility of spermatozoa is noted. This pathological symptom often occurs against the background of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the male reproductive system;
  • azoospermia. The condition is characterized by the absence of germ cells in the seminal fluid. A condition arises with such abnormalities as varicocele, traumatic damages of the scrotal area, anomalies in the development of the vas deferens;
  • oligozoospermia. Characterized by the presence of a small number of sperm in the ejaculate. There is a similar state against the background of the transferred diseases of the organs of the reproductive system, anomalies and defects in the development of the testes;
  • leukocytospermia. This abnormality indicates the presence of a large number of white blood cells in the semen. To serve as the reason of such condition the inflammatory process in the field of testes or seminal ducts can;
  • hemospermia. With this symptom, the presence of erythrocytes in the ejaculate is observed. Hemospermia is an alarming symptom indicating an inflammatory lesion of the seminal vesicles, prostate gland and testicular epididymis;
  • oligospermia. With this deviation, a decrease in the amount of seminal fluid is observed. Provoke it can overwork, excess weight, smoking, drinking alcohol and physical overload.

If one of these abnormalities is detected, the male is assigned additional methods of examination and appropriate treatment.
