Methods of scoliosis treatment

Scoliosis( in translation from Greek "scoliosis" - curvature) is the curvature of the spine. Most often the disease occurs in children, moreover, in girls diagnose scoliosis more often than in boys. According to statistics, about 20% of children are scared of scoliosis. In recent years, the number of diseases has increased, because our children and young people pay less attention to sports and training than before.

Treatment of scoliosis

If scoliosis is not treated, it will progress and can lead to a variety of diseases ranging from radiculitis to internal diseases. Therefore, the earlier the presence of scoliosis is detected and the treatment is started, the better.

Treatment is selected for each patient individually, depending on the degree of curvature of the spine, the age of the patient and the way scoliosis is manifested in this person. Basically, three stages of treatment are distinguished:

  1. Actually scoliosis treatment itself.
  2. Curvature correction.
  3. Support for received correction.

If to consider methods of treatment of a curvature, then allocate:

  1. Conservative treatment.
  2. Orthopedic or called orthotics.
  3. Surgical method.

Let's consider each of them.

Conservative methods of treatment

This method allows you to remove from the spine of the load that is harmful to him, to develop the correct posture position, and also lead the muscles into tonus, i.e. Strengthen them and make them keep their back in the right position.

The method includes several procedures:

  1. Physiotherapy. Correctly selected exercises help to train and strengthen the muscles of the back and posture, correct the position of the spine and relieve the load from it. But when choosing exercises, you need to be extremely cautious, because some of them can do harm.
  2. Massage. This procedure helps to relax the back muscles well, and this in turn, when carrying out parallel additional procedures, helps to put the spine in the correct position. The better the massage, the better its result.
  3. Manual therapy. This procedure is accompanied not only by back massage, but also by simultaneous adjustment of the vertebrae to the place where it is supposed to be.
  4. Physiotherapy. Everyone is familiar with paraffin wraps, ultrasound, ozocerite wraps, electrophoresis. All this contributes to the electrical stimulation of the muscles and their good warming.
  5. Health resort treatment.

Orthopedic methods

With this method of treatment, the patient should wear a special corset. Depending on how disrupted the posture and how much, choose this or that type of corset.

  1. If a patient has a weak condition of the ligaments and muscles of the skeleton, then he is prescribed to wear a compensating corset, which helps muscles maintain themselves in tone and helps maintain the skeleton in its normal position. Wearing a corset is recommended for physical exertion or for prevention for several hours a day.
  2. In order to correct the curvature of the spine, a corrective corset is prescribed, which helps fix the spine in the right position, remove excess tension from the muscles and distribute it over all bones and joints. It is necessary to wear such a corset about 6-8 hours a day, but when exercising with physical loads, it should be worn for the entire period.
  3. In order to fix the spine in the correct position mechanically, it is necessary to wear a traditional immobilizing corset for 7-12 hours a day.

Surgical treatment methods

Disposal of scoliosis by this method is resorted only in extreme cases, when the degree of the disease is very high and none of the above methods help. But there are also times when surgical intervention is unavoidable:

  1. The deformation angle is about 45 degrees and the disease continues to affect the patient.
  2. There is severe pain, as well as signs that indicate a spinal cord injury.
  3. The angle of curvature of the spine is 50 degrees or more.
  4. Cosmetic defect, which has no prerequisites for surgery, but the patient suffers from its appearance.

Before sending the patient to the operation, the doctor should carefully weigh everything.
