Leukoplakia
Leukoplakia( leukoplasia) - focal chronic dystrophic inflammation of the mucous membranes, accompanied by a different degree of keratinization of the epithelial layer. This disease is mainly observed in men of not old age. Particular attention should be paid to leukoplakia, which tends to disappear, and then reappear as a whitish patch, which in most cases is localized on the mucous membrane of the cheeks( mainly along the molar teeth).Leukoplakia occurs due to the constant irritation of the mucous membrane( traumatic damage with dentures, smoking, etc.) and represents sloughing and keratinized areas of the epithelium. The accumulated experience shows that the removal of the above factors leads to the disappearance of this disease, and their renewal - to its relapse. This statement is particularly evident in smoking people, when a complete rejection of this bad habit almost in a hundred percent of cases removes them from the presence of leukoplakia, and a return to smoking leads to its recurrence.
Leukoplakia develops against a background of a weak inflammatory process and is considered as a typical protective reaction of the body to chronic irritation of the mucous membranes. In addition, vitamin A deficiency in the body
is of great importance. Symptoms of
In most cases, this disease is located on the mucous membrane of the cheeks near the corners of the mouth, on the lower lip and tongue. There are several forms of leukoplakia: flat, warty and erosive. With a flat form of complaint there are practically no complaints, or there is a slight feeling of contraction;the focus of the affected mucous membrane slightly protrudes above its relief, grows turbid and opalesces as it corrodes, somewhat resembling mother of pearl. With a warty form, sharply delineated horny sections of keratinization are observed, which often overlap focal manifestations of flat leukoplakia. The erosive form is manifested by cracks and erosions, against the background of the symptoms of other forms of leukoplakia
Treatment of
First and foremost, all medical measures are aimed at eliminating the factors that led to the development of this disease: sharp edges of teeth are treated, dentures are appropriately adjusted, etc. One of the indispensable conditions for treatmentleukoplakia is a complete cessation of smoking, as well as limiting or refusing to acute and hot food. The reception of vitamins of group A is shown locally in the form of applications and inside; The sanation of the oral cavity is repeatedly performed.
Simultaneously, the horny affected areas are lubricated with 10% of the borax( sodium tetraborate) in carotoline or glycerol. The areas subjected to mechanical action( with verrokoze leukoplakia) are excised. Quite widely used were cryodestruction and electrocoagulation.
