The second stage requires sanatorium treatment, usually after discharge from the hospital.
Stage three - the prevention of rheumatic fever. In addition, the patient is recommended to visit a rheumatologist at the place of residence.
During the active phase of the disease, the patient should be treated better in the hospital. If there is no possibility to go to the hospital or for the patient it is not acceptable, then the treatment can be received at home, but strictly adhere to all prescriptions. As soon as the rheumatic process begins to weaken, then one can gradually begin to move more. In the treatment of rheumatism, an important point at this stage should be the normalization of the circulatory system in the body. Often it takes about 14 days.

The effectiveness of treatment is also influenced by properly selected methods and means of treatment, compliance with all prescriptions of the attending physician. The patient should adhere to bed rest, be in a well-ventilated and clean room, observe general peace. After the activity of inflammation begins to subside, the patient is allowed not to comply with strict bed rest. Also, the patient, on the advice of some specialists, is recommended to increase the amount of protein consumed, but the use of carbohydrates is reduced.
Doctors often prescribe a lot of different medications during the treatment of joint rheumatism, based on the principle of complex treatment. A doctor can prescribe antibiotics to stop a pronounced inflammatory process. Because of the streptococcal nature of rheumatism, penicillin is most commonly prescribed. In addition, the patient is prescribed a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The course of treatment with penicillin is 10-14 days. In some situations, the duration of treatment increases with all the subjective characteristics of the patient, if necessary, another antibiotic is prescribed. Until all clear signs of joint rheumatism disappear, it is recommended to take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug( usually the patient takes the drug for a month). In addition, immunodepressants, gamma globulins, and glucocorticoids are administered in parallel to the patient to strengthen immunity.
After removal of an acute condition at a rheumatic polyarthritis of joints and legs the patient is prescribed a course of physiotherapeutic procedures. In the treatment of this ailment is often prescribed electrophoresis, heating with an infrared lamp, applications of paraffin, UHF.
If a patient experiences rheumatic attacks for a long time, then procedures for plasmaphoresis are prescribed. Plasmophoresis allows you to clear blood from various antibodies and toxins.
If the treatment of rheumatism is approached correctly, swelling and tenderness of the joints can take place within one to two weeks. And if the patient with the appearance of the first symptoms immediately go to the doctor, then an attack of rheumatism can go away in a few days.
