Ultrasound of the prostate gland is performed to identify various pathological changes in the organ and in time to prescribe the necessary procedures and treatment to prevent the development of the disease.

Not always the patient has a pronounced bouquet of complaints. It happens that prostate diseases develop secretly, especially in the early stages, when it is difficult to suspect them.

  • the age of a man over 50 years old( just prophylactically, since this age group has a particularly high risk of developing prostate adenoma);
  • has pain and( or) other unpleasant sensations when urinating;
  • pain during defecation and heaviness in the pubic region;
  • there are frequent nighttime urinations to urinate;
  • has a violation of potency( sluggish erection, lack of it, short coitus, soreness with ejaculation);

  • in finger research through the rectum the doctor determines any changes in the prostate;
  • has a place of discharge from the urethra;
  • determined changes in the analysis of sperm( spermogram).

Contraindications

There are no direct contraindications for the procedure of prostate TRUS.There are relative contraindications, in which the risk of the consequences of the procedure in relation to the clinical and diagnostic need is assessed.

This procedure is avoided when the patient has:

  • acute external hemorrhoids;
  • deep bleeding cracks in the rectum;
  • rectal cancer with germination in deep tissue;
  • partial or complete rectal resection( due to physiological failure to perform it);
  • trauma and bruises of the anal opening area.

How is the procedure performed by the prostate gland TRUS?

The essence of the procedure is the introduction of a special thin probe-sensor, attached to the ultrasound analyzer through the anus in the rectum to the prostate. The patient lies on his side, frees the anus, the doctor puts on a special condom on the probe with the sensor, carefully inserts it to the required distance, conducts the necessary observations and extracts the probe outward. The entire procedure lasts a maximum of several minutes.

To make the study as effective as possible, it is necessary to carry out a number of preparatory actions.

Correctly preparing for the prostate TRUS

On how adequately the man prepares for ultrasound examination of the prostate depends not only on its diagnostic accuracy, but also on the fact that he will have to come to it again.

  1. Cleansing as part of the preparation for Trusui

    At the stage of preparation for TRUS, it is necessary to make an enema, or to use a laxative

    . The rectum must be completely cleansed of stool, so that the probe with the sensor freely passed to the prostate. For this, the patient needs an enema or a purgative laxative. Prohibited food intake the day before and the morning before the test.

  2. It is necessary to remove gassing from the intestine. For this, two days before the manipulation, they observe a strict diet, excluding peas, beans, beans, fruits, vegetables, black bread, milk and dairy products. You can not drink alcohol, beer, fizzy drinks. On the eve of the study after the last meal should take 1-2 tablets of activated charcoal.
  3. The bladder should be filled to displace the prostate gland as low as possible. To do this, at least an hour before the procedure, drink at least a liter of ordinary drinking water and in no case urinate until the end of the study.
Please note that in some prostate pathologies, bladder filling is not required for this study. Therefore, the fluid intake before the procedure must be agreed with the doctor!

Interpretation of the TRUS

The physician makes a differential diagnosis of

Based on transrectal ultrasound, prostate examinations can be evaluated:

  • Dimensions of the prostate.
  • Form and the presence of seals.
  • Signs of swelling, active inflammation.
  • The presence of the tumor, its nature and localization.
  • Presence of calcifications, prostate stones, their localization and size.

This procedure allows you to make a differential diagnosis of acute and chronic prostatitis, prostate adenoma, cancer, prostate tuberculosis, identify the causes of male infertility. It should be noted that the prostate TRUS, despite its high diagnostic significance, is always evaluated in conjunction with other clinical and laboratory data( general blood and urine analysis, a smear from the urethra, ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder, spermogram, etc.).

Is it unpleasant?

The procedure of transrectal ultrasound examination of the prostate itself is almost painless. Patients sometimes experience fear of manipulation, tension and psychological discomfort. It is important to calm the man, adjust it correctly, then the excitement will go away and the research will not leave any unpleasant memories. If one conversation is not enough, you can recommend the researcher to take in the evening Leonurus, valerian, new-pasit, peony tincture.

Very rarely, patients notice the appearance of blood veins in the semen during sexual intercourse for 1-2 days after the study. This is due to the fact that with a strong pressure on the prostate can be a microtrauma, which pass on their own without any consequences. This is more an exception than a rule, you should not pay attention to it. However, if the blood in the sperm does not last more than two days, it may be due to other causes that are not related to ultrasound investigation. In this case, you need to refer specifically to a urologist.

It is absolutely unacceptable to refuse the procedure of TRUSI prostate because of unreasonable fears. The vast majority of patients who underwent examination note the complete absence of any unpleasant sensations. At the same time, its diagnostic significance can not be overestimated.
